Don't shoot me - it's ANOTHER Big Hair question

Perhaps I've missed the relevant answers but lots of talk on the threads about smooth/sleek/straight hair. I'm growing my hair, currently a mess of a grown out crop but the aim (in my dreams) is sort of Kirstie Allsop-ish, which is how my hair looked 25 years ago! Would a Big Hair keep my hair all smooth, glossy and slightly wavy, or are they really for straightening your hair with a flick under at the end (which is what the Amazon video seems to show). thanks for your help, ladies :)

It will give you the worst split ends you have ever had!

Laineyloulou · 01/02/2012 17:20

It's the best thing I ever bought. Lots of glossy smoothness here!

salamanda · 01/02/2012 17:41

I love mine, lots of glossy smoothness here too. It gives me a slight curl, but my hair is long and curls easily, so it might have a different effect on other people.

valium did it give you split ends quickly or only after lots of use? Bit worried i'm ruining my hair now you've said that!

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 01/02/2012 17:43

I use mine every day and have no split ends Smile My hair has a slight kink wave and it ends up looking quite like Kirstie's

LaurieFairyCake · 01/02/2012 17:45

I've been using it every day for a year and have no split ends Confused

I get my hair cut every 3 months too, it's a blonde kirsties Grin slightly below shoulder and smooth glossy with a slight wave at the bottom - I curl the bottom out to make it have more body.

SwedishEdith · 01/02/2012 17:55

It does smooth it (no gloss though Envy) I'm in the underwhelmed camp though (and Amazon sent me two of the things, how ironic)

valiumredhead · 01/02/2012 18:04

I have NEVER had split ends before and my hair is as tough as old boots, I also get it trimmed every 8 weeks. I was very disappointed with it initially as I thought it didn't have a cool shot button - then I looked closely and discovered it did Blush so I used to to flick out the ends like laurie but after using it every other day for about a month I have really awful split ends and my hairdresser was horrified. I hated it and thought it was a load of hype and now I REALLY hate it!

salamanda · 01/02/2012 18:29

I didn't know it had a cool shot button either! I've had it for ages! Blush I may love it even more now. I have just checked closely for split ends and none so far. I only use it every two to three days though and use lots of moroccan oil. Maybe you got a badly made one with rough edges that chewed up your hair? The only thing thats ever dried out and split my hair was when I started using hair spray to get the messed up diana vickers look (don't judge me, I was young) - never again!

Hmm, so might be ok but concerned about the split ends thing. I wouldn't want to have to use oil, happy to use conditioner but hate the feel of oils (probably harks back to when I used to have quite greasy hair as a teenager - I blame the Greek half of me!). Wish I'd seen them when they were £20, wouldn't feel so bad as wasting £40 Hmm
