Pretty dresses for summer bridesmaids - suggestions?

Hello S&Bers

I'm getting married this August and have started hunting for something for my 2 (adult) bridesmaids to wear. I don't really want to have to buy from one of those 'bridesmaid dresses' shops as they seem a bit overpriced and I'd rather get something nice they'll enjoy and wear again so am rummaging in what's there on the high street. I'm wondering if the MN hive mind can maybe help? Grin

My frock is a 50s-style Grace Kelly-ish length strapless dress in blush satin with a very pale blue sash and an ivory lace bolero. I was thinking of looking for dresses in dove grey or pale dusty blue, as it'll tone without being too matchy-matchy, and they're both brunette and look nice in those colours.

Cut and style wise, we reckon we're after

  • NOT strapless
  • Knee-length or thereabouts - def not mini
  • V, drape, cowl, wrap or scoop neckline - def not strapless
  • Maybe empire line or thereabouts with a bit of a flare (both girls have wide hips in proportion to shoulders and won't feel comfortable in something tailored)
  • Will consider a pattern if not noisy
  • Sleeves or straps = both fine

Budget is probably up to about £150 per dress. Please help! Thanks in advance Smile

Check out 2 birds bridesmaid. The shortest length and maybe the charcoal or rose water colours. I've picked these for my 2 adult bridesmaids as they are super flattering, not 'bridesmaidy' and can be worn again (genuinely). Also means they can be changed day to evening and the girls can be different (I didn't want 'matchy matchy'. Their service is also a.may.zing. Thoroughly recommend... Grin

Exactly what I did. Lots of lovely coffee shops / clothes shops near there for a proper girly gossip Blush
