I quite like them but they are just so everywhere atm. I don't want to look like a fashion slave. What are your views and can you recommend a nice one that mabe isn't as expensive as a Barbour? Thanks.

I don't think they are naff, provided you don't get one in a garish colour and wear matching boots. Next have nice ones for men and women.

Ok- I just wonder how long they will look ok for before looking dated. I want to get a fairly good quality one I think. I just don't like the big Barbour label on some of them.

I have one from a couple of years ago, before they were so popular. It's a Barbour but it has no gold studs or labels. Everything is black and so much more subtle, it's very warm too.

My dh bought me a black Barbour one but I returned it as I thought it was frumpy and my mum said it was lovely, which was the death knell.

This was just before every chav in the country decided to get a cheap imitation one, so I am really glad I didn't keep it!

georgesmummy11 · 01/02/2012 13:53

I treated myself to one after Christmas and I love it, I don't think they do go out of fashion really a coats a coat. I use to have a waxed Barbour years a go for riding so warm wish I still had it, it certainly didn't cos as much as they do now same with hunter Welles xxx

Barbour is a country brand - it looks tacky when worn out of context i.e. with big black sunglasses, high heels etc.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 04/02/2012 21:02

We were in town today and every other person was wearing one. That signals the beginning of the end for me, I wouldn't get one.

gregssausageroll · 04/02/2012 21:06

I wouldn't buy one and I am a barbour fan! The purple one in particular is everwhere. Very common round these parts.

MrsBovary · 04/02/2012 21:11

Gosh they really do seem to be everywhere. I wouldn't buy one either.

applecrumbleandcream · 04/02/2012 21:32

Very common here as well - especially so with teenagers wearing them with skinny jeans, converse and those funny hats that look like dog ears!!

scarlet76 · 04/02/2012 22:19

I have a navy one from M&S and I love it. Am I a chav Hmm

NotMostPeople · 04/02/2012 22:33

On there way out, so no.

Tortington · 04/02/2012 22:37

eek i got a kind of one from tesco as my winter coat. i thought it would keep me warm and trendy looking whilst riding my bike to work.

arses. i might just have to secretly lose it after spring.

MrsBovary · 04/02/2012 22:55

I don't mind the ordinary quilted jackets. Just dislike the barbour/fake barbour jackets with their prominent logo.

BehindLockNumberNine · 04/02/2012 22:59

Round here the well-known traveller families all wear them - blue or black for the boys and pink for the girls (teens included)
They all bought them at one of the famous traveller horsefairs at the end of the summer.
One girl proudly told me - real Barbour, twenty quid. Don't quite believe it myself...

Tortington · 04/02/2012 23:05

mine has the logo "every little helps" on the back

only joking Grin
