What to wear to the theatre?

Hello all, I'm currently having a bit of a clothes crisis, I've just lost 16lb and am between sizes, and I have VIP tickets for a one off theatre show tomorrow (west end) that I'm taking my DD to. Last time I went to the theatre people were not particularly dressed up that much, but I'm not sure if the VIP thing makes a difference as there is a pre show champagne reception then an after party too.

So, anyway being between sizes has limited my options somewhat, I don't want to buy anything as I still have a way to go with the weight loss...

I'm a 5ft 4 hourglass shape but a fat hourglass (16/18)

So, options are:

Black wrap dress, black tights, black high heels - smart but boring, the only non boring thing being a tiny bit of cleavage.

Purple mesh (but not see through) v neck top, purple lined linen knee length skirt both from coast, natural tights and purple high heels (a matching purple - too matchy matchy maybe?

Patterned wrap dress, blue with squiggly lines (a bit boden-ish but was actually from F&F at tesco) and shoes... er no idea

Or:

A black wrapover top with black trousers, or the purple non see through mesh top with black trousers

Other shoe options are black knee high boots with quite a high heel, or black high heel peep toes.

Heyelp! (please?)

1st idea, Black wrap dress - you will feel confident but not on show, so to speak!

I'd wear the black wrap dress and black boots. Can't go wrong with something liken that.

The purple deffo sounds matchy matchy, it's the wrong time of year for linen and I'm not convinced by the idea of a mesh top on size 16/18, sorry.

Have fun!

like not liken

polyhymnia · 28/01/2012 16:32

Definitely first option

lubeybooby · 28/01/2012 17:13

First option it is then :o thank you S&B I do love you! That was my instinctive choice but I was worrying about boringness.

Oh but with the boots instead of the shoes, btw. First option plus boots. V happy with that.

Absolutely - I actually meant to add boots not shoes.Enjoy it.

LittlePandaBear · 28/01/2012 19:16

First Option but with purple heels for colour?

lubeybooby · 28/01/2012 20:37

I would have done if the dress was a bit more glitzy, but it's just very plain and smart (new) jersey, and the purple heels are patent and would look a bit out of place with it. The boots will be perfect though, they are suede.

Black dress, go buy a new pashmina/scarf from accessorise or a bright/statement necklace to give some interest to the outfit.
