Does anyone else find that Chanel nail polish chips really easily?

I've got this bright red one - I love the colour but it chips in no time at all, just a few hours. I've been putting a base coat under it so it doesn't stain my nails - is that what I'm doing wrong?

Try the Rimmel with Lycra, it is brilliant. Goes on like a dream, lovely wide brush, and shiney shiney. Colours are a bit predictable. But it is the best nail polish i've ever used.

Yep I find exactly the same. Love Chanel colours, but they last barely five minutes on me.

sedgieloo · 27/01/2012 22:11

I find this too. Some say using the chanel base/top coat makes all the difference to wear. I find the same with nails inc, they wear poorly with my 'normal' top/base but loads better with the nails inc ones.

i think different brands must work for some and not others. i find leighton denny chips really quickly, as does opi yet nails inc stays put

you have to find the brand that suits and stays

How many coats do you do?

I find that base coat and two thin coats of Chanel and then a top coat (even just a cheapy £2 one) and it lasts upwards of a week on fingers, about 2-3 on my toes.

It's Dior for me....fab brush makes application a coddle and it lasts....but always use base and top coat (Jessica brilliance absolutely the best one!)

madammecholet · 28/01/2012 11:24

Yes it is. I've started having shellac nails but it doesn't come in rouge noir, so have just bought some Opi 3in1 base, top and conditioner in the hope this keeps the chanel on when this shellac comes off in 3 weeks.

Shellac is amazing tho, if it came in better colours i'd do it permanently.

monkeysmama · 28/01/2012 11:38

I didn't get on with Shellac at all. I do second Jessica polishes and top coats. I use a Vite Seche base coat, Jessica polish & top coat and often get 5-6 days without a chip.

I've never rated the more expensive nail varnishes

My faves are Leighton Denny ,OPI , (both from QVC) No17 and Rimmel

Ambi · 28/01/2012 11:41

I've just bought shellac base and top coat to do at home with uv lamp, I just use normal polish with it, it's lasted 2 weeks no chips- the only chip free top coat I've ever used, maybe this is an option with your polish?

VivaLaSativa · 28/01/2012 11:46

Don't you use a topcoat op? I always find that regardless of brand, nail varnishes always need a topcoat. It doesn't matter whether they are OPI or awful cheap rimmel ones, They all need one or they are going to chip.

MarquiseOfMelburnia · 28/01/2012 11:52

Another vote for the Rimmel with the wide brush. Amazing, great colours and the kind of wear Chanel (and other premium brands) really should have. I don't need top coat with Rimmel either.

The Chanel colours are lovely but unfortunately the staying power doesn't justify the price. Ditto Lancome.
