Lovely brogues. But what on earth do you wear them with?

There are lots of brogues in the shops. Have spied some lovely clarks caramel leather lace up lovelies.
Are they just for looking at and feeling nostalgic about classic footwear, or is there some trick to making them look fabulous.

Outfit ideas please.

DD plans to team hers with shorts, opaque tights and a slouchy blazer. But she is 12.

ujjayi · 24/01/2012 18:45

I wear mine with skinny trousers (black or red). My brogues are black. I also wear them with skirts and opaque tights however I think this look only works if your brogues are not too mannish. Otherwise it all looks abit Doc Marten shoes circa The Smiths finest moments.

I have quite big feet so feel a bit beflippered in mine. My very stylish mum wears hers with rolled up tailored chinos and jeans. Look great.

flipflopflap · 24/01/2012 20:29

I wear mine with opaques and a dress. A bit like This

I always feel a bit mannish if I wear them with jeans!

Nevergarglebrandybutter · 24/01/2012 20:54

yep, the rolled up chino look is a good idea.
love the dress and brogues thang too.

i don't want to buy the shoes then spend loads of money trying to get outfits to wear them with. must check my wardrobe.

Any other ideas?

Oh yes, more ideas please. I paid nearly £40 on a pair of Fearne Cotton brogues. The 1st, and only ,time I wore them, my DH asked me if I was going golfing!
Have not worn them since because of that, but love to look at them every day whilst I pull out my boring trainers from the cupboard.

TheSmallClanger · 24/01/2012 22:20

I'd like some brogues. I'm marking my place.
Does brogues and skinny jeans sound all right?

Nevergarglebrandybutter · 24/01/2012 22:33

I like either. I would go for the new look ones to see if your comfortable in them and have enough in your wardrobe to actually wear them.

Mrsrobertduvall · 25/01/2012 08:11

The Clarks ones are lovely..dd has them for school and loves them so much she wants the brown ones for weekends.
I bought myself some ridiculously expensive ones from Crispins (I have big feet) and to date have worn them with wide black trousers with turnuls, and some narrower tweedy ones.

Mrsrobertduvall · 25/01/2012 08:12

Turnups

BettyBathroom · 25/01/2012 08:15

I like brogues with turned up jeans or turned up trousers. Brogues should make your feet look longer - they'd look a bit daft otherwise. But I think I might be weird but I think small feet look stumpy and odd, like you're about to fall over.

scabbysnake · 25/01/2012 19:17

i love mine, i have a brown/tan pair & a black pair. i have this www.dorothyperkins.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=33053&storeId=12552&productId=4007812&langId=-1&sort_field=Relevance&categoryId=208650&parent_categoryId=208600&pageSize=20&refinements=category~[212123|208650]&noOfRefinements=1 and wear it with thick tights & brouges. also wear skirts or leggings. i think chinos would look fab too so will get some when the warmer weather arrives.

onelastfling · 17/09/2014 09:51

I wear mine with skinny jeans (to offset the fact that they can look too staid if you're not careful)
I love the patent lool ones as well.

onelastfling · 17/09/2014 09:51

lool

onelastfling · 17/09/2014 09:51

look (damn keyboard)

Stokey · 17/09/2014 10:05

I wear mine with pencil skirts, midi skirts and dresses, as well as turned up trousers. I normally wear them for work rather than play though.

Pandsbear · 17/09/2014 10:51

And I wear them with wide leg trousers, jeans and skirts of whatever length. I do think it depends on your style though.

Twinklestein · 17/09/2014 11:16

I have heeled brogues I wear them with trousers, skirt and dresses.

Step away from Clarks though, terribly square and frumpy. There are much nicer brogues around.
