Here are some good and not so good make up things I've bought recently

Good:
Benefit They're Real mascara - really ace brush, smooth and sleek mascara, no clumping
Benefit Browzings - wax and powder kit - soooo much better than eyebrow pencils
Benefit Realness of Concealness kit - not convinced on Lemonaid eye primer thingy but the rest is good
Bobbi Brown foundation stick - you think it will be hard to blend but it isnt at all and makes my knackered 40 year old skin look almost dewy (almost......)
Bobbi Brown creamy lip colour in Brown Sugar - good browny pink with long- lasting glossy finish
L'Oreal colour riche lipstick in Tafetta - got for a couple of quid off some website and it is the flattering neutral I've been looking for all my life Wink

Not so good:

Bobbi Brown long-wear cream shadow in Sand Dollar - too dark for the all-over eye colour I wanted and quite hard to use if you have finger nails due to small pot.
Maybelline eye studio Lasting Drama gel liner - doesn't stay put and I always get a panda ring on upper eye are

Now you.....

Not so much make up but...
Good :

Nail magic
Cnd sticky base coat
Moroccan oil

googietheegg · 24/01/2012 12:56

Not so good -

Chanel VitalLumiere foundation - so greasy

Excellent -

Benefit Bo-ing concealer - stays put and easy to blend
Revlon Colourstay eyeliner - lasts all day
Sephora waterproof eye makeup remover - non-greasy and removes everything really easily, doesn't affect my contact lenses

Sparkletastic · 24/01/2012 13:05

Good good - had been wondering about Morrocan oil and need a non-cheapo eyeliner so will try Revlon.....

Still searching for a translucent powder that doesn't make my t-zone look dead / orange. Even Bobbi Brown failed me there given how much I'd spent on it Sad

And just to expand into perfume I discovered Shalimar at Christmas - gorgeous and feel it will go into Bvlgari Black category as 'essential to keep in stock'. Prada Candy - ok but not much staying power and if you want a gourmand then get Angel for the ultimate in sweetie smells.

Good:

Nars illuminator
Nars bronzer
Clinique chubby sticks

Not good:

Foundation brushes - have tried two brands and they both gave me a rash after a few days
Estee Lauder doublewear light - I need more coverage, so back to the original doublewear it is

Sparkletastic · 24/01/2012 13:17

Which bit of face are chubby (snurk) sticks for? Haven't had much from Clinique apart from lipsticks and eyeshadows.

NYC loose powder is about £2 and is really good. The packaging is bloody awful though, powder everywhere. I am really pale and liked Ruby and Millie best but have switched to NYC for now (didn't think Laura Mercier was worth the money).

lepetomaine · 24/01/2012 13:23

Oh and another good thing - Clarisonic! I wanted one for ages and it is great.

Karbea · 24/01/2012 13:24

I've heard so much about NYC where do you buy it from?

Sparkletastic · 24/01/2012 13:26

What is Clarisonic? Oh am learning so much I do love a beauty thread....

MerryHippo · 24/01/2012 13:27

Chubby sticks are for the lips. Not a lipstick, not a gloss or balm, but a sort of a moisturising lip stain. They are fab.

The3Bears · 24/01/2012 13:28

Good:

Chanel soleil tan de chanel-such a good cream bronzer for summer.
Mac 187 duo fibre brush-really good for blending.
Morrocan oil-hate the smell but its amazing!!!
Joico K-Pac-such a good hair treatment, addicted to using it now

Cant really think of anything bad i've got recentley, however I have gone off my Estee Lauder Daywear, I used to love it but its been making my skin look oily about 2 hours after using it Confused never used to but mabye because im pg.

Sparkletastic · 24/01/2012 13:52

Best red lippy recently is Mac Russian Red - am dark haired with pale freckled skin and I love a kapow red - get compliments when I wear that one.

Sparkletastic · 24/01/2012 13:56

Oh and another not so good was No.7 pore minimiser fluid - dries chalky so foundation gets claggy when applied over it

OP posts:
ggirl · 24/01/2012 14:02

good;
bare minerals rose radiance
jemma kidd long lasting mascara
olay moisturiser with a hint of foundation -great natural look but good coverage

bad;
no7 primer-left white streaks on my face, took it back
ojon restorative shampoo and conditioner-leaves me with greasy hair

HazleNutt · 24/01/2012 14:13

Good -
Ojon restorative shampoo and conditioner that actually allows me to wash my hair every second day instead of every day (no, really. Guess it works like face oil on oily skin)
Chanel Hydramax Tinted Moisturizer
Dior Capture Totale face oil

Bad
Chanel Hydramax exfoliating foam - so few tiny beads that does not make any difference whatsoever
Estee Lauder automatic eye pencil - so dry, impossible to use, doesn't last

Fillybuster · 24/01/2012 14:24

Good:

Jemma Kidd blusher - its solid and matt, but you stroke it on with a blush and it blends brilliantly

Bourjois sparkley disco black eyeliner - stays put all day with a tiny bit of sparkle so its less 'heavy' even with a thick line

No 7 Lash Adapt mascara - builds up brilliantly, doesn't get claggy, stays put even when my lenses make my eyes water

Not so good:

Jemma Kidd under-eye concealer. Expensive and useless - it migrates into the lines under my eyes....I gently pat it back in (as advised) and 2 hours later it is back in the lines. Basically makes the dark rings look even worse as you can see i've tried (and failed) to disguise them

Translucent powder- I love MACs powder compact in medium. I've got very pale skin, and used to use the Light one, but medium is less 'dead' looking and stays put for hours.

pocketandsweet · 24/01/2012 14:27

Great - Superdrug Vit e hot cloth cleanser

Disappointing- Soap & Glory Kick Ass Concealor and Trick or Treatment under eye concealor, but with my lovely Vit E skin hopefully less need for concealers ;)

AlpinePony · 24/01/2012 14:28

Good:
Swarovski's Aura
L'Occitane Immortelle Precious cream

Gillybobs · 24/01/2012 14:32

Alpine ISnt Immortelle amazing?

Good things:
Clinique Dubonnet Lippy - at last, a red lippy I actually wear without feeling you can see my lips from the moon

Clinique Almost Powder Make up - a buff of this on top of liquid foundation and I look airbrushed and make up lasts all day. Magic

Dior Iconic Mascara - WOW!

Rubbish Things:

Garnier BB cream - Awful/Greasy/Pointless. Emperors New CLothes imo

polyhymnia · 24/01/2012 14:33

Good:
Becca's Radiance primer
Becca's Luminous Skin Colour (tinted moisturiser)
Bobbi Brown cream eye shadow
Clinique's new range of Almost Lipsticks
By Terry Baume de Rose

Disappointing:

Clinique's new Lid smoothie cream eyeshadow.

QueenCadbury · 24/01/2012 14:37

Good:
Eyelure false eyelashes...brilliant for some va va voom for nights out

Bad:
Nothing bad as I haven't had any spare cash to try anything else new Sad

ameliagrey · 24/01/2012 14:38

Good

Maybelline The Falsies mascara- purple tube- almost as good as Lancome Hypnose and less than half the price.

Clarins foundation- Extra Firming- doesn't firm of course but gives a nice moderate satin finish.

Bobbi Brown cream concealer- think they have reformulated and this is creamier, tackier, but gives better under eye coverage.

Bad
Bobbi Brown lip gloss in Buff. Looks same colour as my lips and doesn't look as if I am wearing anything except lip balm- I needed brighter or paler/peachier.

AlpinePony · 24/01/2012 14:40

Gilly It is absolutely incredible. I then stupidly balked at paying the 44 euros and bought some Body Shop Vit E cream which actually I should've put on my "bad list" as it was a total waste of money. :(

lepetomaine · 24/01/2012 15:16

NYC is from Superdrug - they used to do a pressed translucent powder which was actually translucent, but I haven't seen that for a while.

Clarisonic is a bit like a massive electric toothbrush for your skin - it's let me break my (very expensive) Dermalogica microfoliant habit so it should theoretically pay for itself eventually...I just take my makeup off with olive oil, use my Clarisonic with Dove soap and then use almond oil and Eucerin or Avene moisturiser depending on how dry my face is. It sort of cleans your pores out and makes your skin nice and smooth.

They are £££ but I got mine off QVC in instalments - it's the one with a body brush option, which is also great - makes your arms and legs really silky :)

Fillybuster · 24/01/2012 15:21

Oh...need to add another one to my 'good' list:

Jemma Kidd i-base (makeup base for eyelids). It is genuinely good.

FWIW I never bought any JK stuff before I got dragged along to one of 'those' parties. Surprisingly, this one was genuinely educational, with excellent freebies (a full size mascara, highlighter and something else) and I ended up buying a load of stuff, most of which I have been using with enormous pleasure.

Apart from the under eye concealer...

Nars Lip Pencil in Dolce Vita is a great matt red for anyone who wants a non-scary user-friendly red, by the way.
