with my wedding outfit. Having a secret wedding end of March with just me, dp and the children. Have not got a clue what to wear. Don't feel comfortable in dresses and don't like the idea of a trouser suit, was wondering about trousers/top/jacket combo, oh please, please help!

ggg's idea is good and free.
What kind of shops do you normally shop at? come on, give us some idea, then we can help

You won't believe it but I don't really shop, blimey there's an admission don't really have the time or inclination! Bit of a jeans and t shirt person. Wonder if I would feel a bit intimidated by a personal shopper. I've done absolutely zero for this wedding, I know it's secret but there's still things to organise, just starting to panic a bit.

OP posts:
littlemissbossy · 19/01/2006 11:37

first thing don't panic
second thing, it's your wedding day FGS and just because you're a jeans and tshirt person (I am too today!) doesn't mean you can't wear something really nice - you might really surprise him!
Ok, really personal I know but what size and what's your budget? and do you have a favourite colour or want something neutral?

JackieNo · 19/01/2006 11:39

How about trousers and a top with a long, fairly elaborate coat? There's one on the Monsoon website , called the Sonna long silk/linen jacket (can't do the link directly - go to 'women', then 'coats and jackets', then 'smart jackets', then go to the second page of results to see it.

Somanykiddies · 19/01/2006 11:39

Ok, here we go - size 14/16, although hope to loose some before the big day. Have a flexible budget. Wear mostly blue, hate red, won't wear lilac. Shoes/boots must be flat. Only 5' 4" and a 'child of the sixties' so nothing too trendy!

Wow, what a beautiful jacket, also like the Bali linen one. Monsoon def looks worth investigating.

littlemissbossy · 19/01/2006 11:44

Monsoon was going to me my suggestion too!! that bali jacket is lovely

Somanykiddies · 19/01/2006 11:45

What could I wear with it and under it though?

OP posts:
littlemissbossy · 19/01/2006 11:51

go to the trouser option - last on the left list - and click on the cream sonna trousers - they also give you options of what you can wear with them, I can't link the page sorry
My suggestion would be to go to the biggest monsoon store you have, because they are good at grouping clothes together - that go together - if you know what I mean

Somanykiddies · 19/01/2006 11:55

They are nice, but I'm worried about the colour, bound to get something down myself! Will sound daft, but also think it looks a bit too bridey iyswim! Knew this wouldn't be easy.

OP posts:
littlemissbossy · 19/01/2006 11:57

if you don't want a bridie look, they have brown! nice skirt with suggestion of jacket
you're going to have to go and shop - where do you live, I'll come with you

nailpolish · 19/01/2006 11:57

a personal shopper is a great idea, i would do it if i had the cash to spend

for something like this you should give it a go

what about debenhams?

littlemissbossy · 19/01/2006 11:58

can I just ask, why you don't want to look at all bridie?? it's your wedding day!!!

nailpolish · 19/01/2006 12:00

that monsoon website is fab, hope you get something nice, and have a great day!

Somanykiddies · 19/01/2006 12:01

I'm in Devon littlemissbossy. Would love the company/advice if you are near.

Really should consider a personal shopper shouldn't I, the thought makes me cringe though. NP, we have a large Debenhams near by. Should I go now or when I've lost weight? I am soooooo clueless!

OP posts:
nailpolish · 19/01/2006 12:07

go now! have a search for other threads on this, youll be surprised at the positive experiences others have had

nailpolish · 19/01/2006 12:08

does anyone else know about the wedding? could you take a friend with you?

littlemissbossy · 19/01/2006 12:08

Well I live between Leeds and Harrogate so sorry but no where near you!
Don't be put off by personal shoppers - they DO have them in places like Debenhams, they are there to help and you are under no obligation to buy - you should call them first to check if you need an appointment. Do not be feel embarrassed about using a personal shopper.
Go now (well not today!), what I mean is don't leave it to the last minute - you're getting married in March, that's close so go and look. Even if you don't buy anything, it should give you an idea of the kind of thing you're looking for. HTH and good luck x
PS Monsoon's still another good idea to try out. Also, under no circumstances do you take the kids with you!

Somanykiddies · 19/01/2006 12:10

x'd posts. Just think that white/cream trouser suits smacks of second wedding, which of course it will be. Dp is the love of my life, my first love. We have found each other again after more than 20 years. The girl he married should have been me (v long and sad story). Have lived the past 20+ years thinking about her in her wedding outfit marrying MY man. Ours will be a secret wedding which how we want it, he doesn't want to wear a suit although 2 of our dds want to wear bridesmaids dresses which is fine. I just want something I will feel great in!

OP posts:
littlemissbossy · 19/01/2006 12:12

Of course you want to look and feel great! but put yourself first, get your outfit sorted out then the girls can wear something that co-ordinates with yours.

Somanykiddies · 19/01/2006 12:12

NP, absolutely no one know about it, not even children yet!

NP and lmb, thank you so much for the advice. Am going to the city tomorrow and will sound out personal shopper and Monsoon.

OP posts:
littlemissbossy · 19/01/2006 12:12

oh and your DP can wear a coordinating shirt/shirt and tie - OMG you'll be just like the Beckhams LOL

Somanykiddies · 19/01/2006 12:13
