So I bought this today, it's too young for me isn't it?

I'm 31, had my PFB 7 months ago and feel all lost (fashion-wise). I've always loved clothes and had a strong sense of my style but since becoming a mum I've totally lost it. I'm BF so can't wear dresses, which I love. I am living in baggy jeans and easy access jumpers etc.

Thought this could look cool with black
leggings, biker boots and a sloppy jumper/t. I'm 5'10, size 14. Nice-ish legs but belly and big leaky boobs.

I should take it back, shouldn't I?

If you take it back, you risk someone else buying it and wearing it, and seeing it again.

Burn it, it's safer.

QueenKong · 19/01/2012 20:56

Sobbbbb....

The model is 2" shorter than you and it only just covers her arse. Don't know why they didn't make it a teeny bit longer as it is lovely but a bit short if you are tall.

Karbea · 19/01/2012 21:03

Only someone 14 or younger should wear a skirt like this. Not adult wear I'm afraid.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/01/2012 21:05

It's horrible. Sorry but it is really, really horrible. And denim minis with leggings look nasty and tacky, even on teenagers. Take it back - please.

Then go to Gap and buy just a normal denim mini (three or four inches above the knee, max) and wear it with navy, grey or purple opaques and brown boots. Black boots with denim minis look v Eastern European prostitute, I think (not always a bad look, maybe, but...). :)

miniweetabix · 19/01/2012 21:11

Yuk.

QueenKong · 19/01/2012 21:23

Alright alright alright, will take it back. I don't know what I'm doing anymore and it's impossible to shop with a baby! Thanks ladies.

OP posts:
tethersend · 19/01/2012 21:25

What sort of thing did you wear pre-baby?

What kind of dresses do you like?

QueenKong · 19/01/2012 21:32

I used to shop in reiss and whistles a lot but my mat leave budget will no longer stretch that far. I like stuff that's a bit different (obviously!) but can't seem to find my mojo. I used to be stylish, honest! I'm blaming sleep deprivation and a serious lack of cash.

Tesco are worth a look- this dress, for example, would look great with opaques and shoe boots...

Something with a zip front could be good for bfing- here, here or here

Check out Dorothy Perkins, Tesco, Peacocks etc. You have to wade through the shit, but you can find some really nice things.

animula · 19/01/2012 22:19

Confused You lot. It's not that far from the sort of thing Boden wheel out. Though, if I;m really honest, that doesn't work as a commendation for me personally.

It'll be fine with a loose-fitting (the becoming-abominable word du nos jours for this appears to be "slouchy") jersey.

Try it on before you send it back.

Tethers, you're naughty. I can't believe you haven't seen someone wearing something rather similar around the park. Grin

What sort of style did you have before (BCE - before children era)? What sort of thing are you attracted to these days?

animula · 19/01/2012 22:21

Whereabouts are you? comptoir de contonniers are still (just about) having their sale and they're rather good.

animula · 19/01/2012 22:26

The lavender trousers (and other pastel/light coloured trousers) - in their cheaper diffusion - MrsCampbellBlack is talking about on another thread will be nice. You sound as though you'll be a good candidate for those, given that you're tall with good legs.

pictish · 19/01/2012 22:26

No way - that's a great skirt. My 31 year old friend would love that! I'm 36 and dumpy so it's not for me, but my pal is tall with long legs and would really suit it. I'm tempted to send her the link because she loves starry stuff as well.

If you have any leggage to speak of then go for it!

tethersend · 19/01/2012 22:29

"Tethers, you're naughty. I can't believe you haven't seen someone wearing something rather similar around the park. "

I have. It only confirms my advice to burn it, as a duty to humanity.

animula · 19/01/2012 22:32
Grin

Even as I posted that I had a sort of whisper in my head you'd say that.

tethersend · 19/01/2012 22:34

Listen to the voices Grin

southeastastra · 19/01/2012 22:37

i picked that up today in m and s and was amazed at how short it was Grin

you are very tall and slim and could carry it off so wear it!

TuftyFinch · 19/01/2012 22:46

I think it is the most beautiful skirt in the world.

rootietootie · 19/01/2012 22:52

im 5'9 and size 14 and 30 and I'd definitely wear that, its really nice. Id probably wear it with black tights and pumps or biker boots like yourself. But since having my ds1 (hes one now) I have a muffin top so have to wear body sucky in suits so I have a nice smooth shape with no overhang. Try it on before you send it back. You might surprise yourself :)

ENormaSnob · 19/01/2012 23:12

I think it's really really hideous.

Sorry op Sad

CointreauVersial · 19/01/2012 23:27

Yikes, that's short.

Whitney dressed as Britney.

herecomesthsun · 19/01/2012 23:40

I couldn't wear that - but I would if I had great legs! With opaques. Also, the Gap sale had some great shorts which would look fab with opaques, for £14.99 (can't remember whether they were in a 14 though)

AgeingFop · 20/01/2012 09:30

I like that skirt. QueenKong you obviously liked it when you ordered it. Before you send it back, make sure you try it on with what you proposed to wear it with. If you still like it, wear it!

Mummyinthedark · 20/01/2012 09:54

I agree withRemus. Every sentiment.
(Remus, are you me?)
