My hair is shit...and it shouldn't be.

It is enviably thick (so I'm told), glossy etc etc. It is just about shoulder-length and layered with a fringe. It suits my face best when tucked behind my ears BUT I wear hearing aids and prefer them not to be obvious so tend not to want to tuck hair behind ears.

It is neither straight nor wavy - just has annoying kinks halfway down. I can blowdry it straight/straighten it or I can give up and curl it (or sock bun) and it looks exactly the same 2 hours later. Morrocan oil makes little or no difference BTW

I need a style that looks like I "just stepped out of a salon". Instaed I have hair that looks like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=bag+lady&hl=en&gbv=2&biw=1280&bih=619&tbm=isch&tbnid=Dh4SmBGZCkwGUM:&imgrefurl=outervalues.blogspot.com/2010/10/lenghty-halloween-vibes.html&docid=46xEw4pRPVURaM&imgurl=2.bp.blogspot.com/_r--35VUiLxM/TMx6cJROcDI/AAAAAAAAAME/y-uWF1foFbg/s640/Bag-Lady.jpg&w=329&h=430&ei=ym0YT8y4H4issAbD-Y3zDQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=282&vpy=244&dur=296&hovh=257&hovw=196&tx=109&ty=215&sig=117145460425717120868&page=1&tbnh=134&tbnw=121&start=0&ndsp=22&ved=1t:429,r:15,s:0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this

Yes thats a lovely do. Far more flattering on her than the jet black straight fringe

Have you ever used a Babyliss Big Hair? That has tamed my thick hair and it keeps its style miles longer

sassyTHEFIRST · 19/01/2012 21:03

Got a Bighair but never really persevered with it tbh. Maybe I should dig it out again.

Just done a Proper Blow Dry and it looks really nice (mostly). A little like the pic. Will see if it is ok in the morning

Your hair and face sound like Jane Hill from the Beeb. Her hair looks nicer longer and softer, if that helps at all

sassyTHEFIRST · 20/01/2012 12:32

D'you know what Pinot, I'd never considered her as a similar face/hair shape but gee willikins, you are right. We are v similar. I'm perhaps not quite a square-jawed as she is but not far off.

And having seen pics of her with short hair, I am NOT now giving up on it long and going for a crop again! Just got to work on the blowdry I think.

Ah cool :) Moroccan oil+bristle brush are the keys to the best blowdry of your life. But, yeah, go softer and longer and flickier. I love a long, sideways fringe with a square face, so it sweeps across the brow. That angle works really well with that face type.

Have you thought about having a Brazilian treatment? Really helps me keep my shoulder length hair in a sleeker style and easier to manage. having these in the last two years has made me feel a lot better about my hair, it is much easier to look after and keep in shape.

Then i got a big hair at Christmas and I LOVE it - that thread about who marvellous they are on here was bloody right. i will never go back!

So: Brazilian, once every few months, and Babyliss Big Hair, every day...

I like my hair so much more than I used to. Instead of thinking - oh it look's ok, i think, oh it looks really nice. Result!
