My hair hates my new soft water area

I had hard water haircare down to a t, and now I've moved 200 miles and it's all fallen apart. My hair feels slimy an hour after washing and hangs like it's dead. I use phyto extra dry stuff. I've dropped the daycream, which I thought might have been a step too far for it here, but still no joy. What do other fine-haired soft water dwellers use?

I have this problem when I visit the in laws. I hate soft water. I have no solution except it helps a bit if I use less shampoo and no conditioner except for a leave in spray one.

When I stay with family I use the kids Johnsons body wash on my hair. My normal shampoo and conditioner make it look greasy half an hr after washing! Kids soap not that much better am afraid, but a little.....

Ah, thanks, ok then. So I shall try dropping the conditioner next (it feels so daring!) and also reducing the amount of shampoo.

I hate soft water too, FODR. Not only has it made my hair sulk but it also tastes awful. I miss lovely flinty chalky water that actually feels like it's quenching your thirst.

I had the opposite problem,I used to live in a very soft water area and my shampoo/conditioner use was not too much, then I moved over 100 miles and now I have to use intensive treatments on my hair and it needs the ends cutting more frequently all because of horrible hard water.

You really only need to use conditioner on the ends of your hair in a soft water area unless it's heavily processed.

On the plus side just think how much money you will save Envy

jasminerice · 19/01/2012 11:11

Where are you? I want to move to a soft water area!

missmartha · 19/01/2012 11:41

I live in a soft water area and use very little shampoo and conditioner.

When I stay in hard water places it always amazes me how quickly I go through the stuff and my hair goes stiff.

Seriously, just a blob or you WILL end up with the hair you describe OP.

MrsCampbellBlack · 19/01/2012 11:41

Definitely drop the conditioner - i had to do this as my hair went totally to pot as was pregnant and in soft water area.

And use a shampoo for fine/greasy hair.

typicalvirgo · 19/01/2012 12:22

I can't believe there are some people that like hard water areas.

I tend to avoid washing my hair when i visit relatives !

FirstOfficerDouglasRichardson · 19/01/2012 12:36

I think it's what you're used to. I hate the taste of soft water and hate to shower in it because I still feel soapy afterwards. My DH hates the taste of hard water and loves going back to his parents so he can have his soft water back.

Northey · 19/01/2012 13:04

South Wales, jasminerice. It's ok, but I miss London in more ways than just the water.

Oh God, and I get bored halfway down a bottle as it is!
