This year I will be 39, my new years resolution is to know how to apply make up!

All I do is a dusting of bronzer, bit of blusher, squiggle of eyeliner and brush of mascara- sounds alot but all v hap hazard with no real thought to whether the colour work etc.

I have no clue how to apply foundation or eyeshadow !

So I want to go to the beauty counters and get them to show me how.
But, who do I choose? Clinique? Chanel? Etc
It can be a top brand .. Just want it to be a good one, one you'd recommend
Thanks

I really like Bobbi Brown, they will show you what to do without a hard sell.

Bobbi Brown definitely.
Laura mercier is also good.

Avoid Chanel, Dior, YSL - too salesy and all about the brand rather than the quality/ usefulness of the product. The staff are only trained in their own products and how to sell them rather than as actual make up artists.

Also avoid Benefit as the counter staff are basically just students - badly trained.

Mac counter staff are properly trained and usually make up artists who freelance as well alongside their counter job but it is a very young brand and whilst youre hardly over the hill - I think you'll need something more classic.

But Clinique or Clarins for your under make-up collection.
Serum, pore refiner, primer, moisturiser etc...

I'd reccomend benefit actually, I was in the same boat as you last August (but far less sophisticated- mascara and lip gloss only!) I researched which style I liked and benefit was definitely the most "me" the woman was fab, really well trained, took my likes and dislikes into account and wasn't pushy at all.

I think Clinique are great. Pretty much all my skincare is Clinique and I swear by it. I also use quite a few bits of their makeup. At the moment I am using their tinted moisturiser almost every day instead of foundation, their blusher is my staple and I like a lot of their other bits and bobs for eyes and lips (though I am willing to try all sorts for those including cheap brands). By the way if you go to Boots now and hand in any old crappy mascara Clinique will give you a small one of theirs to try from a choice of 2. The high lengths in the white tube is really nice.
