checkout the new bags. love the theme of the campaign, but the bags are plain awful, and very difficult to wear imo...

only pics of Alexa too, which is a shame as my least fav bags...

Ugh - universally horrible!

MrsCampbellBlack · 15/01/2012 16:05

I looked at the mulberry bags in selfridges this week and didn't like any of them - the new Harriet just looks like a bag my mum would have.

I really think they've lost their way - I have totally defected to Anya Hindmarch now as I think they're more stylish and they're also considerable lighter and have mad things like places to put things.

madammecholet · 15/01/2012 16:10

I like the new Evelina in fudge, but not for £800!

I do think they've gone mad with their pricing too. I mean for me much above £500 is just too much really.

And their logo is too big on some of the bags - all gone a bit too bling really.

madammecholet · 15/01/2012 16:20

I know mrscb, New Creative Director I think, read an article.. I'd love to know how many of those bonkers colours they actually sell - 5 or 10 in a season? Maybe they are just attention getters?

Anyone on here got a bonkers coloured Mulberry? Come tell us..:)

Well I have a gold tweed Alexa clutch which I lurve but then I have also had my eye on the bright green regular Alexa for a while and so rather like that green snakeskin Alexa in the Marie Claire pics.

Having said that I live overseas, it is bright and sunny and the bright colours work much better IMO. Wouldn't go for yellow though.

PinotVaggio · 15/01/2012 16:54

Brighton looks good in the shots though...

madammecholet · 15/01/2012 17:13

sarabellumhertz agree in a smaller bag the bright colours work better, as well as being somewhere sunny.. I don't think that green snakeskin alexa could be classed as everyday, however, in your climate would you get away with it?

polyhymnia · 15/01/2012 17:17

Really don't get the Mulberry thing - don't appeal to me at all and most are certainly a bit bling (or very bling in case of those that have a gigantic 'gold' medallion on with a picture of a tree!)

As for those colours - ghastly. I guess they're trying for a 'British and funky' look but at those prices I'd want something much classier and more stylish than that.

madammecholet · 15/01/2012 17:38

Like our lovely Peony & Moore Lucia Polyhymnia!! Grin Grin

polyhymnia · 15/01/2012 19:32

Quite! And we are not smug!

SaraBellumHertz · 16/01/2012 04:17

madam it was certainly my intention to use the green Alexa for every day Grin . I am a SAHM and dress quite casually: skinnies or shorts with flip flops and vests so I do like a bit of bling in my bags. Usually I favour jimmy choo or Chloe and the Alexa is pretty much the only mulberry (apart form the luggage) that I like, so just goes to show there is no accounting for taste!

sphynx · 16/01/2012 06:35

SBH, you are not alone, I love the Alexa too. I love how it dresses up an outfit and can look smart and casual. I love how Sarah Jessica Parker looks carrying it in the film 'I don't know how she does it'

faustina · 16/01/2012 07:45

I like the Effie and the Evelina, but agree with mrscb about the blingy ones. Prices seem to be on a par with all other designer bags though - is AH cheaper than that?

MrsCampbellBlack · 16/01/2012 10:56

I think you can still get a reasonable AH bag for around the £500 mark where as mulberry just seem a lot more expensive - more like Celine/YSL prices and they're not exactly a couture house.

polyhymnia · 16/01/2012 11:08

And, IMO, AH much classier because more subtle, understated and classy - and practical too. If I did spend £500 on a bag, which I'm not planning to, it would be on one of theirs rather than Mulberry any time.

Apart from my general lack of enthusiasm for Mulberry, seeing them sitting there every time I go into my pretty uninspiring and unstylish local House of Fraser has come to make them look really 'ordinary', predictable, and boring.

MrsCampbellBlack · 16/01/2012 11:15

Oh I so agree with regards to HOF. The Bath store is like a jumble sale and everything I see in there becomes somehow devalued.

MrsMc82 · 16/01/2012 11:26

Another one who agrees they've gone bonkers here too..... Prices used to be ok ish for a luxe bag where as now they've shot right up and as for the bling-y-ness its just too much imho, ever since the daria's came out with those enormous plaques on them - seems to have gone away from my idea of what nmulberry is all about, used to be that it was all about classic british quality but its all super fashion-y now.... Shame....

Housewifefromheaven · 16/01/2012 11:32

I got a mulberry daria hobo for Christmas (black) and it's my everyday bag. For the next 20 years :)

piprabbit · 16/01/2012 11:34

The ads seem as though they are ashamed of the bags. They are hoping we'll just look at the pretty pictures while not spotting the cunningly camouflaged bags hidden somewhere in the photo (Where's Wally? style)

Livergirl1981 · 16/01/2012 11:35

I have an oversized Alexa in the conked colour I love it the logos on it are understated can't stand the ones with that big gold plaque thing on them I think they look tacky (no offence) but each to their own Grin

MrsMc82 · 16/01/2012 11:39

Eeek - sorry Housewife - no offence mean obvs :)

MrsMc82 · 16/01/2012 11:42

meant [gives up!] Blush

monkeysmama · 16/01/2012 11:47

I have a gold Alexa & like most of the bags on the ad. I love AH too though my favourite bags are Alexander Wang but too much £ for me to own one. There are some stunning McQueen bags out for next season. I love a bit of bling though.

Housewifefromheaven · 16/01/2012 11:59

None taken mrs, I love it :)
