What are all the cool kids wearing at the moment?

I am going out on a non-mum night out (with my non-mum friends) and I have nothing to wear, worse I have no idea what to wear.

I am 27, size 14 on top (32F) and a small size 12 on the bottom. 5'3"(and a bit) and I have very thick light brown hair.

Not keen on bright red, purple, orange or yellow.

I have some black satin peep toe wedges with a pale pink bow and straps I was hoping to wear.

Help!

Oh, meant to mention that I don't have a huge budget.

I also have a pair of black skinny jeans, are these cool or mumsy?

Where are you going? Is it more a nice jeans, smart top night out, or a dress night out?

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch · 11/01/2012 16:04

Just pubs and clubs really.

I have a couple of nice, smart, fashionable dresses but they are too ott, I want to look like going out is no big deal, always dress trendy etc :o

Id try and establish what the others are wearing tbh, just casually enquire...
Ive 2 younger sisters who go out a lot and it can be dresses or it can be shorts with opaque tights and a top, coloured or metallic skinny jeans with a black top and statement jewellery. If you can get an idea of how dressy others will be then get thee to Zara or River Island, no chance of looking mumsy dressed from there!

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch · 11/01/2012 18:28

The problem is that a lot of the fashionable stuff atm is quite mumsy looking I think so it only works if you look young and trendy.

Or is that just a really bad excuse? :o

Looking online, I can't see anything I like anywhere! I am doomed to Joules forever :o

How about a top like this with some skinny black jeans, heels, funky bangles.

You need a long sleeve or 3/4 sleeve skater dress. Go to topshop, warehouse and river island. Buy look magazine. They often have money off vouchers for these places as well as very wearable outfit ideas.

Do you really shop at joules at age 27?

ruddynorah · 12/01/2012 12:23

Also, where do you live? Lots of the main bars in big towns have roaming photographers from Tilllate.com or iamvip.com you can see the photos on their websites and see what folk look like.

Nice dress but not sure what the material would look like in RL

Nice tunic, stars are meant to be trendy this season

star tunic

Wtf is joules?

flipflopflap · 12/01/2012 12:46

Shorts, Opaques, a nice top and heels is a winner, you can usually get some reasonably priced shorts in New Look if you don't have any. Or as ruddynorah suggested a Skater Dress, quite a few lurking about in the sales at the moment.

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch · 12/01/2012 19:58

I was looking at shorts actually.

Love that star dress!

Problem is that I am busty, but not in a good way, so I look rather matronly in anything without a low neckline.

Have seen some nice things in H&M, so hoping to go there next week. I like the librarian/geek chic look, but I kind of do it non-ironically :o
