I want a nice nightdress without spaghetti straps - who can recommend one?

Where do you get nice nighties? (Not pyjamas, they always seem to get twisted round my legs).

In my book nice means - no cute teddies or slogans. Reasonably trendy, bit sexy. Probably shoulders as I feel cold with spaghetti straps but doesn't have to have full sleeves.

Not too expensive, washes all right.

I once saw Sarah Jessica Parker wafting about on SATC in a sort of pseudo-Victorian long white affair which I quite liked.

I recently bought this dressing gown in the sale from Toast - it's surprisingly nice, even though you would think I'd look like I was in the Ku Klux Klan. But the corresponding nighties are a bit too flannelly for me.

Has anyone got any good ideas?

bump bump

anyone?

Or should I just start up my own nightie business :)

Please do as I am also looking for a nightdress, preferably cotton with long sleeves (I get cold) that doesn't look like an old ladies nightdress (no offence meant). The vicotiran nightdresses I find are always one sixe from 10-20 and are voluminous if you are at the smaller end of the spectrum.

The White Company?

[Goes off to look at White Company website, whilst envisaging herself as a nightdress mogul]

Cologne and Cotton? That's where I get mine from....

These are my favourite nighties.

Not massively glamorous, but very comfy and keep my arse warm!

FriendofDorothy · 11/01/2012 07:48

Oh crap that didn't work. I have tried it again and it just goes to the front page.

The nightie is on the nightwear page... "Glamor" section (yeah whatever!) and it is called the 'Knot front self binding nightdress' which sounds like some sort of dominatrix effort!

mrsbaldwin · 11/01/2012 08:57

Thanks for these great suggestions - they're all very nice and I hadn't seen any of them before. Actually FriendofDorothy some of the other BHS ones on the same page are surprisingly nice too - I will go and have a look at them, there is a shop near me.

The C&C and WC ones are both lovely, thanks Puffykins and GLT - HarlotoTara there is a nice one with long sleeves on C&C here although not cheap.

might not be what you're looking for right now but coming into spring/summer this is my fave nightie.

in terms of winter nighties this is likely to come down in price again in the sale and is quite slinky as well as cosy - but it is thermal material rather than cotton...

any of the other nighties I liked this winter seemed to have sold out already!

DH got me a brilliant one from cath kidston last week - 3/4 length sleeves, just below the knee, v-neck and stretchy soft material means I can breastfeed easily at night without my shoulders getting cold. CK not my style really but only DH is going to see it...and he bought it!! Grin

hattymattie · 11/01/2012 14:17

Strangely - I saw some like this in Zara Home but that was a while ago now.

mrsbaldwin · 11/01/2012 15:18

Thanks Tyelperion - I have something to take back to CK in fact so will have a look with interest when I go in. HattyMattie - OK, I didn't know Zara even did nighties so will have a look in a ZH as well - thanks.

If you like a bit of Victoriana try Past Times I bought my friend the second one for Christmas and she loves it.

monkeysmama · 11/01/2012 16:33

I bought some pjs from John Lewis and they do a nightdress in the same range. Has proper straps and a lace v. Very comfy but looks good and washes brilliantly.

mrsbaldwin · 11/01/2012 20:42

Teejwood - the Brora ones are also nice, I am now off to look at Past Times and even John Lewis, where I've never looked at nightwear. There are loads of options here - great. Thanks again everyone.
