AIBU to use QVC to try out stuff (clarisonic, decleor, gatineau), and then send it back for a refund?

Does anyone else do this?

QVC have a 30 day money back thing where you can send stuff back and get a refund (it's extended to 60 days over xmas).

I'd never bought anything from QVC but my mum said I should get a clarisonic through them (was dithering about getting one), so I bought the clarisonic plus and used it and have now sent it back - I've decided to get a mia as I don't need the extra speeds or body brush.

Have also tried out some decleor, gatineau, bare minerals and philosphy stuff and sent it back (and ojon hair stuff which I loved and am keeping). Oh and bobbi brown makeup and lots of cocktail rings Wink

You do pay postage in both directions so effectively it cost me £11 to 'hire' the clarisonic for 2 months but it has saved me more than that as the price difference between the mia and the plus is £70.

Does anyone else do this? I'm loving it as a way to try stuff out which might not suit my skin.

YANBU, we heart QVC here

BUT interesting first post and thus I feel you may be indulging in ye olde arte of viral marketeering

HTH

really! I namechanged because DH thinks it is basically stealing and I thought other people might too!

they want you to do it or they wouldn't have the offer

ScooterJuice · 10/01/2012 17:24

I can see how that works with the cheaper stuff (like a £7 ring, I wasn't going to bother sending that back), but the clarisonic made me feel a bit bad as it's not like they can just resell it is it?

Or is there some sort of 'lightly used clarisonic' outlet somewhere I should know about!

they have a QVC shop not too far from me where they sell off all the used stuff - it's not that cheap either!

hiviolet · 10/01/2012 17:34

Have to confess, I heart QVC and have sent stuff back if I've genuinely disliked it, but I've never taken advantage of their money back guarantee like that. I have heard of people having their accounts closed if their returns rate hits a certain percentage, so be careful.

cornastasiaski · 10/01/2012 17:35

I don't actually know if I've ever returned anything ... I'm far too lazy!

wannaBe · 10/01/2012 17:36

I bought a no-no hair removal thing from them which I sent back. I bought it from them precisely because I could send it back if I didn't like it (which I didn't).

I've often wondered how many people buy uber expensive jewellery from them for instance to wear on a night out and then send it back. That would seem a b bit of a cheak to me but I bet people do it.

TracyK · 10/01/2012 17:38

I was dithering about the clarisonic and even though qvc weren't the cheapest was going to order from there cos of the return policy.

ScooterJuice · 10/01/2012 17:38

That's interesting x2! Wish there was a qvc shop near me. Though the mia I bought is coming from the US Blush

hiviolet hmm - I'd assumed it was a sort of american attitude, my friends in the US are always taking stuff they've used back to the shop(!) - the sort of thing I'd just put up with previously like eyeliner making their eyes swell or whatever. I didn't know they supended accounts for sending-back-ing! Ah well, I know what I want to do re: clarisonic now so will not be trying out anything else big ticket I suppose.

WannaBe oh the jewellery idea is very sneaky. I don't think I'd do that but I bet you're right and people do! Something like the no no has such mixed reviews the sending-back thing really makes sense there, I'd not buy it otherwise.

TracyK exactly my thinking. If I'd wanted the plus I might've kept it but I was pretty convinced it was between the mia and the pro soon after getting it (amazon voucher I could use if I got one through there helped too). If QVC sold the mia I might've got it through them too.
