How do you store your scarves and necklaces?

Mrsrobertduvall · 09/01/2012 08:13

I have lots of scarves which at the moment are on a coat hanger on the back of a door in my office.
Ditto long necklaces...I have one of those "trees" on my dressing table which annoys me...I would prefer something wall mounted but the ones I have seen are very twee with "my necklaces" on it.
Have you any amazing storage ideas?

For necklaces, I have a row of hooks (I think it it supposed to be for keys) on the inside of my wardrobe door and it works brilliantly

tak1ngchances · 09/01/2012 08:27

My good necklaces are in their boxes in a big jewellery box on my dresser. The costume/fun ones are on a coat hook on the back of my bedroom door. All my scarves are folded in my top drawer.

BlueIvy · 09/01/2012 08:31

I store scarves in a drawer in an Elfa storage system inside my wardrobe.

I bought a set of water hyacinth drawers from Next for about £40 which I store all my jewellery. It got to the stage where jewellery boxes and those necklace trees just werent cutting it!

CroissantNeuf · 09/01/2012 08:35

For necklaces I have a hand-crafted metal 'tree' that DP bought for me a couple of years ago.

My scarves (and I have a lot) are either on a mannequin in the hallway, along with a couple of my coats, or hung over the newel post at the bottom of the stairs / on a chair in our bedroom/ in a drawer in the hall cupboard/ on the back of a dining chair....ie. scattered wherever I leave them.

For my numerous bead necklaces I had an old picture (canvas over wood) that I painted over and hammered nails into and then hung them on that. They formed a sort of useful artwork.

The good ones are in jewellery boxes.

Scarves are either on a TieRack scarf hanger or folded in a cupboard.

Mrsrobertduvall · 09/01/2012 12:10

Great ideas...I never thought of Tie Rack!!!

I ahve an over the door hanger thing with about 8 pegs on it, and hang scarves and long necklaces over it. They don't get tangled that way

iWILLdothis · 09/01/2012 13:55

For scarves I have the ikea hanging thing. It's great. Sorry, on phone or I'd do a link for you.

warmandwooly · 09/01/2012 14:03

I bought two hangers from TK Maxx in the clerance section for my scarves. It has gaps of different sized that u thread u scarves throught.

MessNessPess · 09/01/2012 14:06

Scarves are rolled in a drawer and necklaces are in tulle bags bought by the dozen on eBay of varying sizes with gold stars on and hair bits are in same bags with silver stars.

mistressploppy · 09/01/2012 14:08

I have a tall chest thingy (a bit like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=the+pier+jewellery+cabinet&um=1&hl=en&client=safari&sa=N&rls=en&biw=1227&bih=556&tbm=isch&tbnid=jKX8jHBnytDLnM:&imgrefurl=madebygirl.blogspot.com/2010/06/jewelry-storage-armoirelike-in-lonny.html&docid=Rolkb_MwYXKxpM&imgurl=2.bp.blogspot.com/_yw_o2_KAXxc/TChKV6QYiTI/AAAAAAAAJNQ/1_wB-8D8oFE/s640/storage2.jpg&w=500&h=469&ei=H_QKT7P4LZTo8QPDn9DFAQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=971&vpy=243&dur=4545&hovh=217&hovw=232&tx=114&ty=125&sig=106021790978936561083&page=3&tbnh=153&tbnw=161&start=35&ndsp=12&ved=1t:429,r:11,s:35" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this) which DH bought me years ago - great for shoving everything in, has bits for long necklaces and some drawers have ring-holding bits, it holds all my accessories etc and also hairdryers, fiddly bobbles.... other bits of random shit ...

HipHopOpotomus · 09/01/2012 14:26

I use on of these
£4 from IKEA - it's brilliant.

Not solved the necklace problem yet.

valiumredhead · 09/01/2012 16:02

Hi (first post ever!) - Mistressploppy - where is your armoire from?? I NEED one exactly like that!

CointreauVersial · 09/01/2012 21:14

I have an IKEA thingy with hooks inside my wardrobe. It slides out. Probably designed for belts, but perfect for all the long necklaces.

Scarves are a nightmare, as I am a bit of a scarf-o-phile. I have a drawer or two

MrsMeow · 09/01/2012 21:50

My necklaces are hung on hooks that are screwed into the inside of the wardrobe doors. I tried the sticky ones but they fell off after a while.

I used to hang my scarves on hooks on the back of the bedroom door but now I have twenty million so I've started using trouser hangers, you know the plastic ones you can get in multipacks really cheaply? I just kind of loop the scarves over the horizontal trouser bit, and hang them in the wardrobe. I can fit a good 6 or 7 scarves on each, works really well :)

tunnelmaniac · 09/01/2012 21:52

I have scarves on Ikea butchers hooks hung over the top of the door. Makes the door look pretty. And the bedroom curtain rail ends. I have a row of dresser hooks screwed along a shelf above my dressing table for bead necklaces and a wire thingy. Also a pretty 50s glass tray foe earrings.

TracyK · 09/01/2012 22:03

www.notonthehighstreet.com/abigailbryansdesigns/product/hand_painted_necklace_hook I like this and it looks easy to DIY make.
I have the ikea thingy too, but need another one.

SleepyFergus · 09/01/2012 22:46

For scarves I bought Ikea 'Bygel' metal rails - from their kitchen bit. £1.99 each. Think their meant for tea towels etc. I've screwed them into the back of the wardrobe and just loop the scarves on it. Works well. Also have scarves littered about the place

SleepyFergus · 09/01/2012 22:47

I also have the same rail on the back of the airing cupboard. Handy for looping over jeans straight from washing machine - dry overnight!
