As someone who has dry sensitive skin and always has a sneaking suspicion that many of our chemically loaded beauty products only make things worse i've been googling natural and organic products like moisturisers and face creams and came across Janey lee grace's - imperfectly natural books and i wondered has anyone read them and what do you think of them?

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who tries to use natural products like she advocates? what do you do what do you recommend??

Will be watching with interest. I have her book and had the very best of intentions for trying out the natural stuff, but haven't got around to it yet. I did use her tip of taking make up off with olive oil, but don't think this would be good to do every day.

I am a big fan of coconut oil from health food shops - you can use it for so many things. it is a really good moisturiser and has no crap in it. The only problem is it turns to liquid if you don't keep it cool.

definitely, in fact, I wrote a whole feature on using coconut oil as a cleanser, it's fab! definitely better than olive oil too

thanks,Karmabebeliever and Missfoodie i'll read your blog tomorrow morning. I might try the oil cleansing and moisturising - my mum used to make a hand softener and cleanser from warm oil and salt or sugar.
Does coconut oil have any known bad reactions i wonder?

Do you all know the Oil Cleansing Method is a whole 'thing' - devotees here on MN and has its own website - www.theoilcleansingmethod.com?

Can't comment on JLG's books, although I do find her annoying on the radio, but thought you might find the above useful.

TheGoldRoad · 06/01/2012 09:45

Is this the same person who is on radio 2?!

crazynell · 06/01/2012 11:09

Yes she's the one on radio 2 - i've read mixed reviews of her books on amazon: some say she promotes her friends companies and products and some reviews are much more positive and supportive.

For me, its finding a way that is better for my skin/ hair etc and isn't full of chemicals and doesn't cost the earth.

Have a look at www.beingcontent.com
It's a website of a skincare boutique with loads of info on the sort of stuff Janey Lee Grace talks about.

crazynell · 07/01/2012 11:19

i've got one of JLG's books - will report back. on first glance looks ok lots of websites lists and looks like fairly common sense approach although i will have to give the section on colonic cleansing a miss...
