Will you help me (clueless) about these wedding dresses and which colour?

I'm getting married (again) to DH next Christmas...we had a tiny (which we now regret) wedding in London and want to have another on in his home country of Australia....mainly for the joy of it and so that his friends and family (lots of them) can enjoy it. His Mum won't get a chance to be part of a bigger wedding again...her other child is decidedly not the marrying type.

We're thinking of having it in his Dad;s huge garden...I like vintage style and have been pointd in this direction by another Mnr.

I like this style of dress in the link...I'm currently a size 12 but want to be a 10 by then...I'm 38 but told I look younger...do you think I should go for the full skirted type or the slinky version at the bottom of the page?

I like the full ones but am I too old? I am also cofused about colour....this will be Oz in high summer...so light colours...but I am pale with dark hair...what about coral? Help! Oh...I have a small bust and a small waist...pear shaped...I will need them to custom make my dress I think. Advice greatly appreciated...I want to look a bit wow (but appropriate) as I wore a rather boring frock last time and it was a registery office.

Oh not really keen on white or cream but they can make the dresses in anything...even spotty!

I like the Peggy Would with the circle skirt - this one whirlingturban.com/wedding_boutique/boutique_detail.php?id=51 (Hope the link works).

I'm not sure which dress you're pointing out as it goes to a page with lots of different styles on?

I've got a spotty Whirling Turban pencil style dress with bolero and it's lovely.

BandOMothers · 04/01/2012 21:05

I do like the peggy would but it seems too formal or something? I think I like the wing bust dresses...it's that wingg thing that I think would flatter me being small busted....I don't dig the sleeves on the Peggy Would...I have very good arms...Grin

these Emsy that style...they do those in wedding or ordinary type...I wonder if I should just go for the ordinary type? It's a garden wedding after all....

I don't want to look classically bridal...just fantastic! Tbh ALL the dresses are gorgeous.

Get a wedding style session from House of Colour - fab for colour/style of dress and worth it - will save you wasting money on this and in the future on other non wedding stuff

spendthrift · 04/01/2012 21:10

For colours, why not get a copy of the latest Oz hello or Ok or whatever it is, so you can see what works on other people out there?

I love these designs

justonemorejingle · 04/01/2012 21:10

I have a friend who got married in a dress similar to that full skirted one, she looked amazing (and had the legs for it), I'd say if you try it on and like how it looks go for it!
I think it's good to be small busted for a dress like that, as it's all about the waist really.

BandOMothers · 04/01/2012 21:11

Gah no! God I am crap at preparations and don't want to be messing about....can't anyone tell me what colours would suit? If it helps I am almost exactly the same colouring as Kate Bush...in fact I am.

OP posts:
BandOMothers · 04/01/2012 21:11

Ooh that sounds like I AM Kate Bush.....I'm not.

{or am I} Grin

Ooooh LOVE that style! Especially the big pic of the one with the little bows on the wing bust.

I would have the swirly skirt and a fab petticoat.

BandOMothers · 04/01/2012 21:13

I like the bows too! But am probably too old for bows. Sad

I really like the wing bust with a drop waist

BandOMothers · 04/01/2012 21:29

HAve rethought. I am probably too old to be flouncing about in a bloody prom dress....how about the wiggle wing bust one at the bottom of the link above? But in cream with pink or other colour detail at bust and waist? It's sexy but in cream or white will be more weddingy?

What colour are your eyes? What colour do you wear that gets the most positive comments from people when you do wear it?
I like that check pattern on your last link, I think a block colour is more evening-y and check is more garden-y daytime.

emsyj · 04/01/2012 21:30

The wiggle ones are very nice too - if you e-mail them about fabrics they will source something just for you if they don't have exactly what you want.

emsyj · 04/01/2012 21:31

PS I don't think it needs to be white or cream to be 'weddingy' - if you have a nice hair accessory and beautiful shoes plus a bouquet there will be no mistaking who the bride is!

MerryMarigold · 04/01/2012 21:34

This is fun!

my fav

I like the fabric: the lace with polkadot. Wedding-y without being too wedding dress. It will look fantastic in summer.

I like the elastic ruching. Comfortable AND very, very flattering. I would have it with the halter style.

justonemorejingle · 04/01/2012 21:36

ooh, polka dot would be great too... not sure of lace and polka dot thought

BandOMothers · 04/01/2012 21:39

Oh I lik that one too merry but think I'm maybe getting a bit mutton...perhaps that spot would be good in the wiggle? I do love a polka dot!

jingle they're hazel...people seem to think I look nce in red! I wear a lot of neutral...black, grey, white with some coral and green chucked in! Not very adventurous!

Emsy...I thought I'd better get to my ideal size before ordering...how long do they take do you know?

I URGENTLY need and want this dress - worth a look? www.dollycouture.com/special-occasion/the-avila-bay-with-navy-lace.html

Navy isn't very summery but Dolly Couture are great at customising dresses and special requests.

BandOMothers · 04/01/2012 21:42

jingle I can't see a check? Do you mean the stripe?

OP posts:
MerryMarigold · 04/01/2012 21:43

Can't find this wiggle one...I don't think you are too old. I am 39 and I'd wear it (if I had the figure). Think of it as last chance to do this. You're so lucky to have a second chance at a wedding. Now go for a last chance. The Aussies are really chilled and a bit wacky (esp in dress sense). I don't think ANYONE will think you are mutton.

BandOMothers · 04/01/2012 21:43

That is gorgeous emsy and the lace makes it very weddingy....God I could buy two! One for day and that one or similar for night!

[gets carried away]

I only have one of the Whirling Turban dresses and I bought it from the ready made boutique - it took about 2 weeks to arrive from Bali.

I imagine you would have to wait quite a while longer to get one custom made, there should be guidance on the FAQs but if not just email them - whirlingturban.com/faqs.htm#wed
