Help me with dressing table organisation!

I've uploaded a photo of my dressing table. I'm embarrassed at the state of it.

What stuff do you all have out on display or use regularly? Where do you store everything else?

My approach of leaving it all out has to change. Help!

mine is far worse. you could put all of it in a box and see what comes out then put the rest elsewhere.

I have one small drawer that I keep lotions and potions in. Within that is also a tray with all my nail varnishes in.
Then on the dressing table itself I have a set of tiered clear plastic trays from Muju which I keep eyeshadows etc in.

I also have a shallow tray which I keep the makeup I use most days in.
And another shallow tray with moisturiser, nail varnish remover, deodrant etc.
And a pot for makeup brushes.
And I cull it ruthlessly every now and again.

I only keep perfume on my dressing table, on an old-fashioned glass tray, and a writing slope.

Nail polishes in a toiletry bag in left drawer, hair products and brush in right-hand drawer. I keep other make-up and lotions in the bathroom in a basket. But I do only use my dressing table for brushing/drying my hair.

Oh god it looks like mine. I'll be watching this thread with interest. I also have 2 drawers full of 'essential' stuff that I can't throw out and yet I never use any of it. Plus an underwear drawer stuffed to overflowing. I see other peoples bedrooms and they have nothing on display. Where are their jewellery boxes, perfume, hair brushes, alarm clocks, books, magazines, photoframes, hairbands, bangles (where do you store bangles) etc?

My dressing table has only perfume and a jewellery box on it. And a vase which occasionally sees a nice flower or two (in case you are reading DH). I keep scarves and lingerie in the drawers. All cosmetics, body lotions etc are kept in my bathroom.

'Where are their jewellery boxes, perfume, hair brushes, alarm clocks, books, magazines, photoframes, hairbands, bangles (where do you store bangles) etc?'

Jewellery box - haven't got one
Perfume - in the shallow tray described above (only ever have 2 bottles!)
Hair brush - in pot described above
Books and magazines - bedside table (until dp moans and moves them downstairs)
Hairbands - don't use them
Bangles - in a box in a drawer

Mine used to look like that! Now mine looks like that, except it is all in nice baskets. Grin

Hair stuff, lotions and potions and brushes in a large box, make up in a smaller box and necklaces/beads and bangles hanging off my mirror. It drives DH up the wall.

I do have far too much 'stuff' on display, and after our bedroom is redecorated and re carpeted this week I am going to sort through EVERYTHING in our bedroom and have a massive cull. It doesnt help that I got 4 bottles of lovely perfume at Christmas...

I have all my make up and jewellery stored in [[www.ebay.co.uk/itm/X4-SMALL-PLASTIC-STORAGE-OFFICE-DRAWER-BEDROOM-UNITS-/150558594565?pt=UK_Storage&hash=item230dfdd605 these. They're great because you can see what's in them and you can pull the whole drawer out to rifle through the contents. I have them stacked along shelves.

this is what you need

Your life will be transformed.

Thanks for suggestions. I have tried container things in the past but forget what's inside (yes I know it's ridiculous, as I only need open them to see but hey-ho). Similar problem with drawers. If I have stuff in drawers I 'forget' it and end up buying duplicates - how mad is that?!

I think see-through containers may be the way forward!
