My lovely friend bought us a fashion experience day for my birthday - basically you get your hair and make up done, bring your own clothes and they photograph you together on the "catwalk". My friend is beautiful and skinny and I'll be 5-6 months pregnant by then...and don't want to feel like the frumpy fat lump I'm currently feeling like! So I would love your help for any ideas on what clothes to wear to flatter the bump? I'm 5ft5 and normally quite slim - are there any nice maternity clothes companies you can recommend or shapes you think work really well? Thanks so much in advance!

When I was pregnant I always felt best in close fitting clothes, that fitted close to my body underneath the bump as well as above it iyswim. So I would suggest something like a knitted or jersey dress. I found 'maternity' dresses that flowed out from above bump in a kind of empire line style just made me feel a bit large and frumpy. I had a gorgeous merino wool v necked dress that wasn't maternity but hugged my bump really nicely. I would suggest you show off the curves of the bump rather than try to hide it especially if bump is on the smaller side, and even if not (can't remember how big I was at 5/6 months.

Oh also I have been told before that if you are feeling big, the slimmest part of a woman's body is between breasts and neck so a deep v neck or plunge neckline might be something worth trying, to show off if your breasts are looking good due to pregnancy too!

And you will look beautiful, in my opinion pregnant women always look gorgeous. You might be feeling bloated and horrid but on the outside you will look amazing, as carrying a baby is amazing.

What's your budget?

Isabella Oliver, Tiffany Rose and Asos are all worth a look.

Isabella Oliver vests look beautiful and simple. They are gathered at the size and really flatter your shape. They are quite pricey but I found mine off ebay.

Thanks so so much for your helpful suggestions (and your kind words sunshineoutdoors)

That's really useful and I'm looking forward to shopping now!
