Fitness DVD for fat forties

Hi all you style experts....saw another thread on here on this topic but didnt want to hijack. I am a 45 year old mum of two, kinda fit (dog walking 6 days a week for an hour). Have to kick it up a level or three for major family event in April. Want to be slim, goddess in front of ex-h and his family (your loss, loser). I cant afford the time to join a gym, have work, child minding, school responsibilities. But I could probably give 30 minutes 3-4 times a week before breakfast and the start of my frantic day.
I looked at the Davina ones but which is better; Davina or Jillian's Shred? Or do you have any other suggestions? Thanks

I did the shred for a couple of months, and it was pretty miraculous. Lost a bit of weight, but really toned up. Had muscles on my shoulders and everything. Must get back to it...

Davina is a bit more time-consuming, for less dramatic results, IMO.

WannabeMegMarch · 31/12/2011 10:42

Oh thanks herbaceous I looked at some clips on youtube and she seems a bit of a bully..but that may be what I need? I could do with both losing weight and toning but feel weight loss will come if I work on toning. As in if I feel I am becoming more godess like, I will eat more goddess like.
Are there any other DVDs I could consider?

I didn't like the Shred at all.

I come back to Davina's time and time again and have found them excellent.

With fitness you don't actually want 'dramatic', you want sustainable, consistent change which you can easily maintain.

WannabeMegMarch · 31/12/2011 11:25

showofhands which Davina one did you find good- I was looking at the Body Buff one which seems to have good reviews on Amazon.

I liked the fact that she was bossy. Brought out a minor girl crush in me. And I liked the dramatic results, as that encouraged me to keep going, knowing I was getting somewhere. With Davina, I didn't see the improvement so soon so got discouraged.

So I guess it's down to personality: if you like being bullied by a faintly lesbionic fitness freak, the Shred's the one for you!

ShowOfHands · 31/12/2011 11:30

I have all of them Wannabe. The Buff is the most recent. I think they get tougher as they progress so it's probably the most intense. You do get results with Davina, I have a 6 pack and it's wholly her fault.

The Shred is dull.

being bullied by a faintly lesbionic fitness freak Xmas Grin
Not what I had in mind when I posted first!
Have slight girl crush on Davina (doesn't everyone?) and want to believe she can turn me into aforementioned goddess. I feel she would understand my need to be elegant but incredibly sexy while I am ignoring ex-h and leering ex-FIL.
Jillian might not understand that but she might bully me for my own good? Oh lord- I will have to get both wont I?

Can type a bit more easily now as I have two hands and the bfing monster is asleep.

I like Davina because you can slot it in to whatever time frame you have. There are 20 minute workouts, 30 minutes and 40 minutes. Or you can do two 20 minute ones targetting whatever area you need to. Or three 20 minute ones or 3 half an hour ones. Depends how you feel. A couple of her dvds and most bases are covered. The interval training keeps your heartrate up, you burn fat and you tone up without bulking up and I do like Davina. She's enthusiastic but held in check by her trainers, sympathetic, encouraging, clearly fit etc. I think I like the fact that the trainers do the training, Davina does the entertaining and everybody has their niche. Jillian isn't very likeable which I don't suppose she cares about tbh but I'd rather have had a friendly, known face to listen to instead of being annoyed by her throughout. I had a baby 17 weeks ago and thanks to Davina am back to my pre-pregnancy weight and pretty fit. And post pregnancy (and post emcs) I was 2 stones overweight and broke a sweat climbing the stairs.

WannabeMegMarch · 31/12/2011 12:24

Wow am impressed back to pre-pregnancy weight after 17 weeks [clapping].
not being sarcastic and really admire people who reach weight loss goals. I have had the same goal since I was 17! As for emcs- thats just crap- and totally mucks up your body and brain I found (going off topic).
Agree that Jillian doesn't seem likeable but sooo many people swear by The Shred. Really its about commiting to it isn't it. Have flu today so cant commit to anything other than surfing, tea drinking and choc scoffing.
But next week I mean business.
