One that I'll actually use as opposed to it gathering dust on the tv shelf!

I'm a size 8 so not looking to lose weight, I just want to tone up mainly my bum and legs and banish the dreaded cellulite. Wouldn't mind tightening my tum too, at the moment I can't even manage one sit up.

Time wise, I could probably manage about 45 minutes 3 or more times per week.

Any recommendations anyone?

Its quite a shock to the system isn't it! I was shredding in the summer and had to stop after a v bad ankle injury in August. Haven't got back to it yet as it's too high impact but am expecting it to be a shock when I do!

TerraNotSoFirma · 03/01/2012 16:07

I'd like to do this, Do you need a lot of floorspace?
I'd be doing it either before the children woke up or after they have went to bed, Does it make a lot of noise? Lots of thumping about?
(Have paper thin walls in a bungalow)
Really need to shift at least 2 stone, So am starting a healthy eating plan and hoping to exercise at least 4 times a week.

LolaLadybird · 03/01/2012 16:35

You need enough space to lie down for some of the exercises - other than that it's pretty much on the spot stuff. As for noise - only as much noise as you will make jumping up and down/running on the spot.

wildfig · 03/01/2012 19:49

"As for noise - only as much noise as you will make jumping up and down/running on the spot."

... and shouting, 'Nooo!'/'Natalie is cheating!'/'Get a bra, Jillian!'/'I'm strong! There's nothing I can't do!', etc.

You will make up your own catchphrases.

The DVD has arrived! I'm scared, very scared. I only work part time so I'm going to start it on my day off on Thursday to see how I get on and give myself 4 days to recover before going back to work

Wildfig - I am impressed you still have the energy reserves to shout, Jillian would say you're not working hard enough (or some Americanism to that effect) Wink

DottyDot · 03/01/2012 22:27

Wildfig's right though - Natalie does cheat. I think it's at around 12mins on level 1.... Grin. I'm sticking with Anita forever

wildfig · 03/01/2012 22:42

I was very sad to see that Natalie and Anita have been given the heave-ho on Ripped in 30. The new Natalie is even more Amazonian and glossy-limbed. At one point, Jillian virtually shoves New Natalie's head (sorry, am not up to speed on the names yet) into her crop-top and chuckles words to the effect of, 'Talk into here, New Natalie. If you see the girls staring at my chest, folks, it's because this is where the mic is!'

VivaLeBeaver · 03/01/2012 22:56

Dd informed me today that she caught dh watching a programme on tv with naked ladies and that Natalie was one of the ladies. Hmm

DottyDot · 04/01/2012 10:49

Ha! That's a whole different kind of exercising... Grin

DottyDot · 04/01/2012 10:50

I'll be shredding tonight - was out last night but managed the abs and legs lolo apps which were good - only a few minutes but at least made me feel like I was doing something - the abs one told me I'd burned off a grand total of 21 calories... Hmm

CoralRose · 04/01/2012 11:01

Was going to say Shred... I realise though that this has moved on now though!

I have just dusted mine off... did it couple of years ago and it is fab. I've since had DS3 and need to start it again. I think I've gained nearly 2 stone Shock that needs shifting.

There used to be a 'Shred Thread', could do with some virtual support, is it still about?

DottyDot · 04/01/2012 20:58

Bloody hell just shredded. I think they should give out chocolate medals every time you complete it...

I'm using 1kg weights and can't imagine using anything heavier! I also want to MURDER Jillian when she says "just a couple more" at one point and she DOESN'T MEAN IT. I end up shouting at the telly every time I hear it. Exercising clearly does nothing for my blood pressure..! Grin

sequin2000 · 04/01/2012 21:09

Make sure you buy this from Play for £4.99 rather than £29.99 from Amazon!

TooEasilyTempted · 06/01/2012 09:33

I did it yesterday, for the first time, and I couldn't do it today even if I wanted to. My thighs are killing me, I can't sit down or stand up without almost weeping, and my legs shake when I try and walk up the stairs.

Every time Jillian told me not to quit I wanted to punch her in the face.

£29.99!! Amazon must've had a barrage of Mumsnet Shred buying, I got mine from there on Monday & it was only £5 then!

notyummy · 06/01/2012 10:51

Keep it up ladies! I know it is hard, but that is kind of the point. Really hard - but only for 20 minutes. And the aches do honestly get better once you start doing it again (they fade as you warm up.) They will then come back once you have cooled down....but don't stop doing it just because your muscles hurt. CAVEAT - if you have actually pulled a muscles/injured yourself, then that is obviously different! It really is a case of 'no pain, no gain.' Very, very few people get a toned figure without having to work through a pain threshold IMHO.

DottyDot · 06/01/2012 11:43

I've managed to shred twice this week and am even going home slightly earlier tonight from work so I can fit another shred in (before going out drinking Grin). My stomach feels tighter even after 2 shreds - and I suppose I'm more aware of keeping everything pulled in iyswim...!

TooEasilyTempted · 06/01/2012 12:05

There isn't really a cool down on the DVD so what do you all do?

I just finished the DVD and collapsed in a heap on the floor with no cool down, that's probably why I'm so sore today.

OP posts:
Sparklegeek · 06/01/2012 13:37

Those few stretches at the end are supposed to be a cooldown but they are pants. Way too short and the actual stretches aren't held for long enough. My inner thighs are the bit of me that ache but I'm not sure how to stretch them out more as all the stretches I use for running are for front of thighs or backs of calves!

notyummy · 06/01/2012 13:44

If you look on YouTube and search for inner thigh and hamstring stretches you will find plenty of demonstrations.
