i am banana yellow with hints of grey and look bloody awful.

Is it possible to dye it to dark brown at home or wuld you say its best to get it done professionally? I.e. Do you need to do it in stages ... Dark blonde then brown/etc?

Thanks

Yes, you can do it at home. But how to do it/....? I Need more info please.

Is this your natural colour?
If not when was it last coloured?
Is it currently fairly even or really patchy?
What with? Is the current shade warm (with reddish tones) or cool (mousey / ashy)?
What is the condition of the hair?
How dark do you want to go?
Do you have natural greys? What %?

If you are bleach blonde you need to go red first before brown to avoid a greenish tinge

I recently went from blonde to brown. Don't whatever you do try and do it at home or you will end up with either khaki hair or pink/red depending on the tones of the dark colour you're applying. My hairdresser applied a pigment to my hair before applying the new colour which is the crucial step, and one you can't do at home.
Once you've had it professionally done you can then carry on at home as I have now done but please don't risk doing this yourself first time, colour correction at the hairdresser costs a hell of a lot more than having it professionally dyed!!
