i am only five foot 2 and a size 6 to 8 but pretty much all most dresses look shit on me and make me look blobby somehow even though i am not!Angry

but i bought a "fit and flare" mini dress earlier this month from topshop and it was amazing, i actually looked tiny waisted, in proportion and slim, it was so flattering and i want to buy a few more before they go out of fashion

anyone know where else does them other than topshop?

I guess you mean this sort of thing. In which case asos have loads, also know as skater dresses.

And not this. Hmm

SoFreshNSoClean · 29/12/2011 16:08

They are great if you have a bit of a tum! I am tall and fairly slim, but have ac-section overhang. Fit and flare disguises it perfectly, but accentuates my waist. Very flattering style.

My friend had a fab one from Dorothy Perkins - just had a look online and they don't seem to have it anymore, but worth keeping an eye on their website or in your local shop. They also sometimes have some in the "circular cut dresses" bit of the website.

Whistles have some too (on their website but it doesn't link very well), but they're £95. Maybe worth waiting for in the sale?

Gillybobs · 29/12/2011 16:21

They are everywhere just now, just search for skater dress on Shopstyle to see them all, then filter according to price you want to pay etc here

scotsgirl23 · 29/12/2011 17:36

Dorothy perkins have some in their sale, as do Oasis. Asos also have lots of them. I've also got one from warehouse (well, the same one in 3 colours) which is reduced to clear at the moment.

They are sometimes called circle dress/circular cut - or skater as someone mentioned. Ponte seems to pop up as a description too.

thanks all! had heard of skater dresses / skater cut etc but didn't know they were the same thing.

Basted I am big of the hip (and arse and tum) but with a good waist. I bought one of these dresses and the front view was super-flattering. Side view bloody terrible though as they flare over fat bits and make them look even bigger. Bloody dress and hips and tum and arse

scotsgirl23 · 30/12/2011 12:56

They're great on mahoosive hips as you can't actually tell where they are - it just looks like the skirt shape if that makes sense.

MrsMicawber, any colour requirements?

scotsgirl23 · 30/12/2011 12:59

purple

This in purple (also available in green) would possibly work - I'm 5'6 and I would say it's about knee length.

Oblomov · 30/12/2011 13:19

Am loving the purple. can't find the green, you mention. please link, is it dark green?

scotsgirl23 · 30/12/2011 13:48

Would you be allowed to wear a dress with a long sleeved top underneath? There are a few midi length on asos, but annoyingly they don't have long sleeves

this for example

Ooh I like some of the dresses liked to here :)

RaisingMrC · 01/01/2012 12:44

Whistles have some really nice ones too.

Pinkflipflop · 01/01/2012 12:55

I love or loved the Whistles Mila dress until I tried it on - I'm 5' 6" and it only came to mid thigh. Looked like some horrid 60's smock Sad
