Why is this Great Plains dress so heavily discounted <suspicious>?

See here www.greatplains.co.uk/product/womens+Dresses/J1AE6/Harriet+Jersey+Shirt+Dress.htm

it looks ok to me - has anyone any experience - is it a really horrid fabric, odd shape or something?

Maybe it's just a great bargain? Their sale has some fab reductions. I bought the black lace Mandelay dress reduced from £71 to £18 & it's gorgeous!

MrsSeanBean · 28/12/2011 10:45

I hope so as I've put caution to the wind and ordered it.
I suppose I've just been seduced by too many 'bad' bargains in the past.

Ooooh that looks v useful. What olour did you order MrsSeanBean?

MrsSeanBean · 28/12/2011 11:10

I was tempted to go for black or grey, but I always buy black or grey - so this time I ordered 'Roebuck' - seems to be burgundy. Will report back!

MrsJAlfredPrufrock · 28/12/2011 11:46

I'm drawn to the burgundy for a change but wondering if I might find the black more useful. The only bit I'm worried about is the breast pockets.

I'm trying to order, but the website doesn't appear to be working for me.

MrsSeanBean · 28/12/2011 12:04

No it didn't work for me to start with either. I have a Mac and sometimes I find I have inadvertently resized the window which stops me clicking in the relevant fields. You're right - black would be most useful I suspect.

OP posts:
MrsSeanBean · 28/12/2011 12:05

PS - seems to have a nice v neck which might counteract breast pocket effect..?

Great plains generally seem to discount really well in the sale, never usually had a problem with their clothes before, I find their basics really good quality.
Get both colours Xmas Wink

OllieinOrange · 28/12/2011 12:47

Great dress - and price! I keep clicking on a couple - the Melbourne knit dress which has a nice neckline but I fear would be too long on me (says its a midi length) and the, erm, Dolly (ra ra) dress - good colour on me, just not sure about the ra ra bit and if its, well, too ra ra!

MrsJAlfredPrufrock · 28/12/2011 12:55

I still can't get the order page to load properly, so I've ordered over the phone. I've ordered both the roebuck and the black.

I have a lovely antique white v-sheer silk blouse with a v neck and ribbon tie from Hoss Entropia and I think I might be able to wear it under these dresses.

MrsJAlfredPrufrock · 28/12/2011 13:01

MrsSeanBean -Thank you for sharing that bargain! Do you have any more? :)

gallicgreetings · 28/12/2011 13:03

I think it was more than that when I looked yesterday so maybe just a lack of demand?

I find you have to have to right sort of figure to look good in a shirt dress. I don't have it.

PippiL · 28/12/2011 13:09

Thanks for this post... Oops I just ordered one too!
Got the grey - I'm a 14 so got a size L
I had a few things in my basket, but got sensible and deleted them all and just got the dress.

southeastastra · 28/12/2011 13:14

ooh it's nice! are their sizing large or small or true?

Spooklegeek · 28/12/2011 13:16

Sizing is pretty spot on. I have a fair few things in a M & I'm a 12.

GeriManda · 28/12/2011 13:17

It is nice but looks a bit thin - I can see her bra through it. Plus, think you do need a figure like the model's to wear it - thin and straight.

southeastastra · 28/12/2011 13:21

ooh lovely have ordered a grey thanks for the link!

kitsmummyskissingsantaclaus · 28/12/2011 13:35

Oooh thanks for the link, fab sale, I've just ordered the shirt dress in grey and the manderlay lace dress!

SuchASadMum · 28/12/2011 14:58

Thank you have just ordered four as I am determined to wear more dresses next year.

MrsJAlfredPrufrock · 28/12/2011 15:00

SuchASadMUm -which four did you order?

MrsSeanBean · 28/12/2011 16:29

Glad to be of assistance :-)

Looks like I'll need to be quick if I'm going to get the black as well...!

GeriManda · 30/12/2011 18:11

That shirt dress has now gone back to £39!

mumtoted · 31/12/2011 17:16

The roebuck had too much of a brown hue to it IRL for me.

MrsSeanBean · 31/12/2011 17:22

That's very odd, and annoying. I wonder how I would stand regarding exchange if I wanted to change the roebuck for black...?

I thought the price was too good to be true...Confused

Mine arrived today, got it at £15 so delighted. Breast pockets are fairly small so actually have quite a flattering effect (im quite busty). Fabric is fairly light but wool mix so feels like it will be quite warm. Im a 16 and got XL, its a perfect fit. Nice length, just above the knee, Im 5'7

Ive bought loads from GP over the years and always find the stuff lasts well so there are some great bargains to be had from them just now
