I am starting a new job in January at a considerably higher level than I was at before; I need new clothes to match! I'm working three days a week so don't need that much stuff, but would like things I can mix and match.

I am 5"5 and a size 14, look awful in trousers and am leaning more towards pinafore-type dress I can mix with different shirts etc. Accessories are so not me, I don't even wear a wedding ring I hate stuff like that so much. Think super-plain and geeky. I would be very grateful for some tips. Budget not huge but would rather spend more on quality than crap.

Thanks!

I would get a nice pair or tailored trousers - plain and classic and pait prthem up with jumpers (Zara or Uniqulo do cheapish ones that look and last ok)in the colder weather and shirts in warmer. TS Lewins often have sales on (4 shirts for £100). You can jazz it up with a liberty scarf or some plainish costume jewellery.

I would always have a couple of smart suits - again plain and classic. You can generally pick things up in the sales.

And smart shoes - people do judge on smart shoes!

In general, skirts not too short, shoes not too high! Comfort is key!

Congrats on the job. What do you do?

Just saw the 'awful in trousers'. I am sure you are not! Get tailored ones , spend a bit more than normal and you'll see!

What about the wrap dress , thick tights and nice boots combo? Flattering for everyone and comfy too

Ooh yes, Phase 8 frocks are quite nice.

I would take advantage of the sale in LK Bennet.

What about these:

Dress

cardigan

jumper

skirt

Very smart basics that you should be able to play around with.
