Help me choose a perfume

What is your favourite perfume? Is it essential to try them on before you buy them? I'm desperate for some perfume for Christmas (I don't normally wear any) but don't have time to go and try lots on - are there any that suit most people?

Always try them on, they smell so different on your skin than in the bottle, and even from person to person. My friend smells gorgeous when she wears YSL Elle, it just smells stale on me. I like Stella and Kenzo Flowers, but both are quite light. Depends what you're after. I smelled some Givenchy Le Secret from the bottle which smelled lovely, I sprayed it on and it smelled awful. But don't spray too many on in one trip, it'll get confusing and headachey. Can you get to a big department store and ask their advice?

I wear Michael Kors Daily. I love it but as pp said, it's smells different person to person.

I also use Vivenne Westwood Anglomania in Winter and have Vera Wang for evenings out etc.

A perfume maker fellow told me that, between smelling perfumes, sniff the crook of your elbow. It's the equivalent of cleansing your palette between courses.

Also, as said, only try a few at a time, otherwise it's too confusing.

Thankyou all. Will have to try some perfumes on in the New Year. No idea at all where to start though Xmas Grin
