Ok just wondering what your best fashion buys have been. I will start..
Coat-mini duffle coat ( this it's third winter and still going strong)
Shoes- Carvela shoes picked up in the sales.
Jeans- Dorothy Perkins
Tops- Dorothy Perkins
Hat-Jigsaw (Don't normally buy really expensive hats for winter etc but I bought something in the sale and I couldn't get my money back only a gift card so made this purchase. Had it for around three winters now)
Scarf-my very cheap Missoni scarf that I bought new for a pittance around seven years ago
Gloves- accessorize fingerless/mittern combo- being going for a few years now
Bag- Balenciaga bag-nearly two years old but still going strong. Used so much that it's been worth the money
Bras-fantasie bras

Love the sound of a Balenciaga.

For me - J-Brand skinny black jeans, perfect fit and never, ever bag.

Whistles white scoop neck t-shirt - The most flattering neck line and goes with everything.

Ballet flats from Russell and Bromley - so comfortable.

Grey ankle boots from Ash "Jalouse" - can wear with jeans and skirts, they dress up an outfit for me as they have a slight heel.

Cashmere gloves in Mulberry from Brora - warm and toasty!

Hopefully · 19/12/2011 18:09

Cardigan - Brora (or Brora anything, in fact) - as long as you look after it it stays as good as new FOREVER.

Leather jacket - bough in Spain from Zara over a decade ago and still my absolute favourite item of clothing in the world.

Boots - Duo boots are really good value considering how well they last, and fit my slim calf/big feet combo.

Tights - Wolford, or M&S autograph if I'm poor (which I mostly am)

warmandwooly · 19/12/2011 18:23

Wideawakenurse-I have some Mulberry bags also and I have got the best value from my Balenciaga (bought in the sales) than any other bag apart from my Mulberry Mabel bag(also on sale).

Vanessa Bruno cream peacoat.
APC boots
Malene Birger angora jumper
Bag from Liberty, can't remember brand

All pretty good. But I do keep the good things for years.

BloooCowWonders · 19/12/2011 18:32

Best cashmere cardi (wearing it right now) from sainsburys. On its 4th year. 3/4 length sleeves and 3 buttons at the neckline. And in the sale so £15. Wish I'd bought in every colour available :)

Dawndonnathatchristmasiscoming · 19/12/2011 18:37

A Black Mulberry Duffle coat - £40.00 three years ago.
A Black Dior skirt suit, with pearl buttons bought in Oxfam on the Kings Road for £3.00, it was thirty years ago, but still looks like new.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/12/2011 19:26

Agree re Fantasie bras and Wolford (only in the sales) and M&S Autograph tights.

Coat - Hobbs

Gloves - haven't got any but my M&S cashmere wristwarmers are 2 years old and still going strong.

Scarf - I haven't shopped in Primark for over six years but I still have one striped scarf from there (about ten years old) that I often get asked about (somebody thought it was Paul Smith!).

Vivenne Westwood jersey dress - it was 100 pounds in the sale but I wear it at least once a week, whatever the season.

Hopefully · 19/12/2011 19:34

Do you think most (although not all) of our 'best' purchases are designer/expensive because we look after it more/appreciate it more or because it's actually better quality?

ForwardOcho · 19/12/2011 19:59

I've got a load of designer stuff bought mainly in Bicester village - because I'd driven a long way I was determined to get something. Mainly, it has been worn once or twice. Whereas my failsafe go tos are a black cashmere dress with cap sleeves and a peter pan collar - bought on a whim five years ago in M&S when DH popped into marble arch for a pee - universally admired. Ditto pair of half price Darling black pants which are just the right side of cool when worn with black suede wedge shoe boots. Ah - but then there is my Current/Elliott denim jacket from Net a Porter which transforms everything I wear and makes me feel very hip. £250 - cost per wear about 25p.

racingheart · 19/12/2011 20:02

gorgeous black velvet dress coat that I bought for £30 in a tiny boutique that closed down. I get stopped by strangers asking about it.

Trenchcoat, also £30 from same shop. In its second year, worn to death and still looking gorgeous.

Dark purple wrap-style dress from Hobbs. Again £30 in a sale and worn once a week for over a year. This year every shop has one like it. Its a classic.

FritziGreenEyes · 19/12/2011 20:04

Bloch ballet flats (in black and silver)

Belstaff biker boots (grey)

JBrand Agnes (black) and Houlis (navy)

Petit Bateau Breton top

Zara leopard print scarf (bought two years ago)

White Company jersey maxi dress (navy)

NorthFace Down Coat (grey)

Zara Cashmere cardi with sequins (charcoal)

Falke opaque tights

Splendid vest (white)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/12/2011 20:09

Yes to White Company dresses too. Okay, there is nothing 'fashion' about them but they are the cat's PJs re reliability and keeping their shape etc.

Zoidberg · 19/12/2011 20:15

Coat - grey tweedy from Monsoon, from a sale 6-7 years ago, still going well
Suede gloves
Leather rucksack, 4 years old now, has had a lot of hard wear as is my only work bag
M&S knickers from so long ago - 10 years? they haven't made nice bikini style ones for years, thank god the ones I have are still good
A black slash neck vest top, also M&S, from 1999, the only black thing I've owned that hasn't faded
A long button through denim skirt from New Look bought on New Year's Eve 2000
Office biker-style boots

monkeysmama · 19/12/2011 20:41

I second the Ash Jalouses. I have them in stone and black and wear them every day. They're the most comfortable and versatile boot ever. Perfect infact.

HoneydragonAteCliffRichard · 19/12/2011 20:44

Caterpillar Mardy Boots.

They. Are. The. Bollocks.

warmandwooly · 19/12/2011 20:46

Hopefully-I just buy the best I can afford at full price or in the sales. Regarding any designer stuff-I do value it more because it has to last for me. Coats etc to be have to last years and accessories are a way to update things to 'freshen' things up be they expensive or otherwise but in general I look at cheaper stuff but just think I would rather one nice piece compared to five cheaper pieces

OP posts:
MarshaBrady · 19/12/2011 20:49

Me too Warmandwooly. One thing rather than lots of cheaper stuff.

I forgot to say Wolford tights.

I try not to repeat things. Ie if a friend can't tell the difference between light grey skinny jeans and another pair of light blue then I might not get it. Variety of colours etc.

Get0rf · 19/12/2011 20:50

A dress from Kookai - it makes me look very, very thin.

The coat, jumper, jumpsuit and dress I bought from French Connection - I have had them for years and they still look brand new.

Green slingback platforms from Faith which are the most comfortable shoe ever and still look new.

Shoeboots from Asda which everyone complements me on.

Coloured tights from M&S - ladderproof and haven't bobbled.

Jack Wills jeans. Look brand new and fit perfectly.

Luminescence · 19/12/2011 20:57

Freya bras and knickers
Radley briefcase
French connection red coat
Phase eight purple shift dress
Primark velour stripy pj bottoms
Monsoon scarves

warmandwooly · 19/12/2011 21:07

Gotta be M and S pj bottoms for me
Oh also just discovered M and S anti rol knickers-fabulous-no more inching my knickers up my arse awkwardly and embarrased any more!

Ash Jess Bis boots I bought this season. They are quite like the Jalouse mentioned above.
All Saints herringbone wool coat, about 4 years old, worn to death and still looks good as new.
Falke Softmerino tights. Mega warm and about 10 times better than M&S Autograph for double the price.

RidingInTheMidnightBlue · 20/12/2011 11:02

New Look skinny jeans. Very cheap, so useful if you keep bobbing between sizes...

swanfall · 20/12/2011 12:18

Falke cotton touch tights, Wolford Merino tights
French Sole Harriet ballet flats, in silver. I have other colours too, but the silver always go with everything.
Jack Wills navy peacoat
Topshop vest tops
Brora cashmere socks
Tan Jigsaw bag off ebay
Mimi Holliday and Fantasie bras
Camper knee high fur-lined boots
River Island rolldown black jersey harems for slouching round the house and exercising in. So much prettier than normal jogging bottoms or leggings!
