Stylish quality man-bag that will make DH's Christmas and 2012 - Help!

I've been looking around the net, but with no joy and thought somebody here would have a good suggestion.

DH asked for a work bag for Christmas. It doesn't necessarily need to fit a laptop in it, as his work laptop is huge and bulky anyway, but it does need to fit files etc.

He is early 30s, works in a professional suited and booted job that involves lots of meetings and travelling across a city between different offices/organisations on foot, public transport, car. He would like to be trendy and stylishly but cannot generally be bothered with putting in the effort and shopping time. He does sometimes buy quite daring stuff (ie bought some fancy shirts and red converse in recent trip to NYC). So if someone (ie me) gives him something trendy he would be delighted. He currently carries a big black and grey laptop rucksack by some sports make (north face?) that is a few years old and ageing.

My budget is 100 quid, less would be nice, but I would also pay for quality that lasts. As a guide to my taste, I always liked the Paul Smith stripy wallets, but they are all pretty expensive so I guess their bags are as well.

I just don't know what style, make, material to get him. Are any brands particularly fashionable? I don't want something from M&S as all his aunties and grannies will buy him M&S shirts etc. Something a bit sexier would be nice!

Please help... yours gratefully, last-minute-shopping spouse.

Have you looked at Ted Baker? Some are out of budget but quite a few within it too?

A little over budget and also Pedlars Blush but how about like this www.pedlars.co.uk/page_4666.html?

On the off chance you're in London, spitalfields market does great leather man bags. We paid £60 last year.

Loops, total link fail - try this.

LoveInAColdClimate · 18/12/2011 12:33

Oh, also, don't get a very trendy and expensive hand felted bag as it will shed all over his coat!

LoveInAColdClimate · 18/12/2011 12:35

How about this?

MatLeaveForever · 18/12/2011 12:37

Oooo, love the Timberland one! (Note to self, do not buy hubby another present for £100...)

LoveInAColdClimate · 18/12/2011 12:38

John Lewis so not exactly young and trendy but this is a nice shape and well within budget.

I know, MatLeave, I wish I hadn't started looking as now really want to buy DH another present and we are supposed to be sticking to a strict budget this year! I have been covetting a lovely Mulberry sachel as well and actually quite fancy the JL one as a fraction of the price alternative!

Oooh, lots of ideas, thanks all. I like the Paul Smith messenger bag for 85 quid, but it doesn't say the dimensions. The John Lewis one is nice too, but a bit small for files. I'm not keen on leather ones, as I think they can be quite heavy strung across a shoulder all day, especially when full. I should have said that in my post shouldn't I!

I've just found this sit - Crumpler - apparently an Australian brand. Bags look quite nice. Has anyone heard of it?
