Best mascara for barely-there, natural make-up?

I don't wear much make-up at all.

I am very very fair and freckly.

I dye my eyelashes.

For a night out though I do wear a bit of mascara. What is the best one to get? I really don't want a big fat brush for caking it on.

A purple shade looks lovely and more natural than black on a very fair face. I have got a cheap Bourjois one that does the job well.

I like to wear a nice bright pink mascara as I like to think it brings out my orange and blue spotted hair. However you may want to go for a slightly toned down look with a nice crisp orange mascara. Sorry, wrong feed:)

Purple? Whut?

I am very pale and was advised to get a grey mascara as brown/black too dark on me. Turns out there are not many grey ones about (did extensive research in Selfridges!) but YSL do a good one. HTH

The new Boots No 7 one is very good (can't remember what it's called but is advertised as giving 'buildable volume'). You can put on a normal coat and lashes stay separate and don't clump. You can put on extra coats on top later when it's dried if you want it to be more dramatic for going out and it still doesn't clump.

Chanel Inimitable is what you are looking for. Very natural, separates beautifully, no heavy gloop or clumping lashes.

Yes, a burgundy/dark purple is more flattering against fair skin than black. Madonna wears it apparently... I discovered it by accident, then mentioned it to a couple of people who confessed that they already knew and had been wearing it for ages.

You won't look as though you have bright purple lashes - they will just appear darker and thicker. You have to look closely to see the colour, and it should be a deep burgundy/dark purple. It is less harsh against pale skin.

It's No 7 Lash Adapt notnow. And it's really good, buildable volume so just a few strokes for a natural look. I keep raving about it because it's such a good product and also good value.

What ever brand you chose, avoid Black. It's way too harsh for most people, even though most people use it.
