Best clothes for hiding a gut?

instantfamily · 14/12/2011 11:00

Help, my DDs are going on 6 years old and I am still being asked if I am pregnant! I don't like to wear tents and I don't put on my spanx everyday, what is a good style to hide the belly?

Thanks for any replies.

a GUNT????? WTF?

theyoungvisiter · 14/12/2011 17:34

Sorry I had to post and echo hambles WTF.

What on earth is a GUNT?

I can only say that I recently got a pair of Paige jeans - NOT cheap but my god, they are like denim spanx. Every single person I've seen since has commented on my weight loss/miracle diet/general trimness.

giyadas · 14/12/2011 17:44

A gunt is a revolting term that works on the same basis as calves/ankles = cankles.

HamblesHandbag · 14/12/2011 17:48

Shock Shock Shock

JedwardThreesome · 14/12/2011 17:53

Gym clothes will get rid of it.

Simply wear 3 x week, at the training session of your choice.

Thread title edited for the sake of community harmony (just in case newcomers are wondering).

Thanks

bigTillyMincepie · 14/12/2011 18:14

Those of us who are in our prime know only too well what a GUNT isXmas Sad

theyoungvisiter · 14/12/2011 18:17

I still don't get what a gunt is. Can someone spell it out?

Due to the thread title change I am thinking something to do with gut/cunt but that seems utterly bizarre?!

herbaceous · 14/12/2011 18:32

Google if you dare (not work safe!)

theyoungvisiter · 14/12/2011 19:31

oh gawd. My firewall is still recovering from Dragon Butter...

theyoungvisiter · 14/12/2011 19:34

Ah, well, I'm pleased to discover:

GUNT: The Transitional Government of National Unity (Gouvernement d'Union Nationale de Transition or GUNT) was the coalition government of armed groups that nominally ruled Chad from 1979 to 1982, during the most chaotic phase of the long-running civil war.

Quite work safe Grin

Although I also discovered the other definition. OP, what a horrid word! Wash your mouth out and dettol your keyboard.

EatMeDates · 14/12/2011 19:37

Stick on Spanx and wear things that accentuate other areas - wrap dresses if you've got good tits, empire line if you ahve good legs and dresses that hug at the waist, skim the tum and flare at the hips if you arent pear shaped.

Jeans = high-ish waist and slim fitting but not too skinny.

Tops - dont wear tunics as make you look preggers. Wear tops with a deep v if you have norks and (thin) layering can work well, too.

Stay away from chunky knits and double breasted coats, embrace good quality, thick materials and patterns/prints (but nothing garish).

So sayeth me.

instantfamily · 14/12/2011 19:57

Sorry, I thought gunt was a term coined on MN and I thought that I was being hip for using it! I think it is a terrible word but when I look down reality is worse!

please substitute 'twin skin' or triplet skin in my case. and tell me what to wear!

thanks.

theyoungvisiter · 14/12/2011 19:58

I agree with all that EatMe - apart from empire line which I think looks horrendous on anyone with a hint of a tum.

Even Keira Knightley struggles to pull it off in Pride and Prejudice and if she can't do it...! It's basically instant pregnant tummy.

instantfamily · 14/12/2011 19:58

thanks for your suggestions.

I love chunky knits - oh well. I am a trousers and simple top kind of girl, but find that all those low waist pants give me muffin top hips which are especially visible with anything stretchy on top.

I guess I should wear more dresses - my legs are the only thing that didn't age 20 years in 7 months of pregnancy.

thanks again.

jedward, I tried that and it made me feel better but my shape has sadly improved VERY little.

I like to wear a wide belt with something like a knitted dress, it takes the attn away from the wobbly belly and makes you look like you have a proper waist.
