Where would you look for this?

I need a particular sort of top for an activity I do - but don't get much time to shop and last time I tried, got nowhere - so please do you have any pointers on where would be good to look? (Or any specific recommendations if you've seen anything that would work!).

The requirements are:

  • A top/blouse/shirt to wear with black trousers or long black skirt
  • In a single, block colour - can be any colour, but I would prefer a strong or jewel colour (rich green, deep red, purple, teal, something like that, but would consider any colour!).
  • Full length or at least 3/4 length sleeves
  • Fairly smart - but not obvious workwear
  • Reasonably classic, not too "trendy" as I hope to be able to use it for several years and as the other people involved are mostly older and I don't want to stick out too much, but not too granny-ish either
  • Not too tight-fitting cos of my post-baby wobbly bits Xmas Blush
  • Ideally under £40.

Any ideas please? Thank you!

I saw this this yesterday in h&m, they had other similar ones too, bright colours

Ooh I quite like the orange actually! Would have to try it on to see if I can pull it off and if the sleeves looked long enough but it's definitely worth checking out, thanks!

I quite like this one also a leopard print could work..

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 14/12/2011 14:29

Hm I might just be able to get away with the pink one (it has black bits but not too obvious). But leopard print wouldn't be allowed unfortunately, it has to be all one colour with no different-coloured trims etc.

Ooh, those are possibles too and especially with the magic word "Sale"! I do rather like the first one, especially in the blue/purple colour.

Now I just need to find some time to get into town and try them on! Thanks for the ideas!

Can't link because I'm on my phone but saw jewel coloured ones today in Dorothy Perkins with full length sleeves, pink and orange. Everything in store was buy one get one half price

Oh, it's not that exciting - it's a choir! Our concert dress (well one version) is black with all different coloured tops.

Mmm must look in Dotty P's too, if I can figure out where it's gone as our old one's closed down!

Wow just had a look at DP website, they have loooads of things that should be OK! Not sure why but I would never have thought of looking there, can feel a trip coming on though... And I've looked up where the shop has moved to at the same time. Now just need DH to take over the DCs for a bit at the weekend. Thanks cake!

Order online.
JL would be free delivery if you try a couple. And for FC it is worth the delivery at those prices IMO. Returns are easy enough to make it worth a try.

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 15/12/2011 22:53

Well I have got one, it is This!

I wouldn't have liked it that much from the website actually (it looks really odd on the dummy with the skinny jeans!), but managed to get into town briefly today and tried on a ton of different tops; but when I put this one on it seemed to really work with my colouring somehow, and it also covers up my wobbly bits nicely Xmas Grin

I didn't really want to buy online cos then you can only try two or three at a time and sending them back is always a pain, plus I had a giftcard for the shopping centre in town that I wanted to use up! So am v chuffed now. Thanks for all the suggestions!
