my lovely pale blue crew neck cashmere sweater (a very surprising gift from MIL a few years back) seems to have been the only item of my clothing targeted by some particularly hungry moths. I like wearing pale blue (layered with grey, white etc) in winter as I have a tendency to revert to black and navy but look much better in clear colours (I am very pale and freckled, pale blonde hair, pale grey eyes). Anyway, I can't afford to go all out to replace my cashmere just yet (and I can't wear wool) M&S have the franken-named cashmilon which feels nice and soft. Has anyone seen this sweater in the light blue in real life? My local little M&S doesn't have that colour in stock. Any experience of it IRL, is the colour a pretty baby blue? I would layer the crewneck with a very fine knit grey splendid t-shirt and also a pretty off-white winter weight blazer. Or ... is it naff?

I saw one this week, as my MIL always wants cashmilon twinset for Christmas (but don't let that put you off.)
There was a very pale baby blue - bit pallid but def blue not grey blue, and also a deeper powder blue - almost the colour of Wedgewood. They are soft but you have to hand wash in delicate soap or they revert to a squeaky and harsh synthetic feeling very quickly.

Devon, if you can bear it you can find cashmere on eBay - I bought some 2nd hand after moths nibbled my cashmere and it was less than a new non-cashmere jumper.

devonshireduckling · 13/12/2011 19:27

thanks racingheart, they don't sound too bad but I think I'll have to see whether the pallid blue emphasises my own blonde on pale invisibility problem. Will try to make it to a big marks.

MadameOvary that's a great idea, I shall have to look ... perhaps this is something I should look for on ebay post-Christmas?

My mum has a couple and they are very static-electric. She is always giving me shocks!

Gingefringe · 13/12/2011 19:50

I'm always cautious about buying cashmere on eBay as there may be moth eggs in them already which may spread to your other clothes and carpets. Beware!!

devonshireduckling · 13/12/2011 20:22

ewww gingefringe, that's the last thing I would need! shall have to reconsider the ebay possibilities, or perhaps just buy the brand new with tags items? I would wash it anyway before wearing, would that do the mothkilling job?

dexter73, I might become a kind of human taser ... imagine the possibilities!

Try TK Maxx for cashmere.

TessOfTheGerbilvilles · 15/12/2011 22:00

If you buy second hand cashmere then you need to pop it in a sealed plastic bag and leave in the freezer for a couple of days, this will kill any eggs/moths etc. You can wash as normal by hand with a non bio/gentle wool detergent.

40notTrendy · 15/12/2011 22:04

I wouldn't recommend the cash million. It doesn't wash well, bobbles and wears badly.

AppleHEAD · 16/12/2011 08:13

It makes my hair stand on end and I give the kids electric shocks..

devonshireduckling · 17/12/2011 04:00

Thanks, so I will direct my attention to high street cashmere and ebay ... Have any of you had any experience with la redoute cashmere?

There's 25% off M&S cashmere at the mo.

ruddynorah · 17/12/2011 16:23

Cashmillion is naff. Ditto the 25% off offer.

tethersjinglebellend · 17/12/2011 17:16

How can you get cross with a 25% off offer? Hilarious Grin

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 17/12/2011 17:24

Uni Qlo has cashmere on offer at the moment.

MadameOvary · 17/12/2011 19:02

Devon, I always put my eBay cashmere in the freezer after checking it thoroughly for moth holes (best way is to hold it up to the light) I've had to complain quite a few times but always, always get a refund as I make sure I buy from reputable sellers. After it's been in the freezer I wash it, as the previous poster advised.

ruddynorah · 17/12/2011 19:10

Eh? No ditto as someone already mentioned the offer Hmm

tethersjinglebellend · 17/12/2011 20:46

Ah... I thought you were saying the 25% off offer was naff too. I thought it was an odd thing to say Grin

devonshireduckling · 21/12/2011 03:14

thanks for this - I'm cruising some J Crew cashmere on ebay (which is supposed to be made from the same thread as loro piana sweaters). Will also look in TK Maxx and am waiting for the sales to start in earnest for Uniqlo. I've heard hit and miss reports of M&S cashmere (though loved the discount confusion above Xmas Grin) but will check it out.
