Christmas day clothes

It's always seemed to me there are two types of families - those who dress up on Christmas Day (lots of velvet and a bit of sparkle) and those who can only just about be persuaded to get out of their pyjamas. I'm in the latter camp - elasticated trousers a must. What about you?

Leggings and a nice top here, so there is plenty of room for all that food and drink!!

madammecholet · 12/12/2011 20:36

heels. bling. mac plush lips gloss....

as for accessories, a glass of Prosecco always goes well with any outfit imo..:)

scentednappyhag · 12/12/2011 20:39

A smart dress, but with flat shoes as Christmas day entails a lot of driving for me, and I'm rubbish at driving in heels Grin
Nothing velvet or sparkly though!

MrsCampbellBlack · 12/12/2011 20:40

Dress-up of course Smile

I bought a dress in October for Christmas parties and Xmas Day. Its a short tunic-style dress, so quite forgiving (crucial for when I down a bottle champagne and 3 mince pies before midday Grin. Wearing it with thick tights and heels, which will no doubt be replaced with big fluffy slippers the minute dinner is over.

Northernlurker · 12/12/2011 20:45

Christmas dress on order from Boden sale......

maybenow · 12/12/2011 20:50

we do smart casual - me in woolly tights and a knitted dress, DH in cords, shirt and tank top.

very different for us as we're usually casual casual - jeans and hoodies.

QueeferSantaland · 13/12/2011 09:47

I dress up.

I've posted this before, but the first christmas day I spent with now DH's family, I was in a long red dress with enormous earings etc, and I got to his house and they were all in jeans & a jumper.Xmas Blush

I'll be driving, so maybe a dress & boots for me.
DH is working, so whites for him!

LizzieBusy · 13/12/2011 10:20

Dress up. Nice new dresses for the children and a fab dress and heels for me. Other half is in cords, jeans and shirt, jumper.
Love love love glamming up on Xmas day

ujjayi · 13/12/2011 10:44

We glam up on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Dress and heels for me, trousers and shirt for DH, ditto DCs. We try to make as much fuss over Christmas Eve as the day itself because the anticipation and build-up is just as exciting :). We don't do glam until nightfall that day though.......too busy with taking dog ono a loooong walk in vain attempt to wear her out so she doesn't snaffle gifts/food/tree in all the excitement!

KWL51 · 13/12/2011 11:27

i try to make an effort. the children get new clothes, so for the boys usually means a new polo shirt and worn with smartest jeans they already own, the girls get new dresses usually red.
this year after having lost 7.5 stone ive got tonnes to choose from, i keep buying party dresses, but crucially need everyday clothes. I go shopping and yet something else sparkly and sleeveless falls into my arms and my debit card leaves my purse!

talkingnonsense · 13/12/2011 11:36

7.5 stone! Wow KWL that's amazing have fun shopping!

OLizzylouofBethlehem · 13/12/2011 11:39

OOh dress up definitely!
No sparkles or velvet, but I like to feel special.
Especially as am not cooking this year, will have Madammecholet's accessory as well Xmas Smile

TheTinselsTheWrongColour · 13/12/2011 12:13

madammecholet does have the perfect accessory, have already reminded dh several times not to forget the bubbly, not too fussed about everything else,he can forget that but don't forget the bubbly.Have also warned him if he comes back with any cheap cava I will be very shouty and he will be miserable :o

I am in the latter camp of trampiness on the day but have hinted that maybe we should make a teeny effort but as we are alone seems a little pointless

KWL51 · 13/12/2011 14:04

thank you i'm at target now so hope not to gain too much over christmas. size 12's are so much easier to buy than a 26!

scarlet76 · 13/12/2011 14:27

Well, I am not a velvet or sequins kind of a girl but we do dress up. This year we will be back in my home town ooop north. Staying in a nice hotel for a few nights as my mum recently moved into a flat and doesn't have room to put us all up.

I have just bought a new top and shorts from Limited Collection at M&S. The top is cream with a bow design to front and 3/4 sleeves. The shorts are black and very forgiving fluid. I will be wearing with 100 denier M&S opaues and animal print pixie boots. DD has chose a dress from Next that is very shiny and OTT. I love the fact she loves it so much!! DH will be in his usual jeans, nice new Boden shirt and a jumper. DS will throw on whatever he can find - clothes are not his thing - he would rather I spent the money on Lego for him!

nkf · 13/12/2011 19:44

I feel such a skin compared to you guys.

brighthair · 13/12/2011 19:46

I usually wear a fetching outfit of pj bottoms, uggs and a top BlushBlush

Gorran · 13/12/2011 19:50

No sequins or velvet here, but yes, we do smart on Christmas Day. This year it's a black skater dress for me, with opaques and shoe boots. Hopefully a nice new scarf too. Children will be in dresses and husband in new shirt and jeans I would think....

felicitywits · 13/12/2011 19:50

I am planning to wear a giant jumper, my more forgiving jeans and probably a non-wired bra - with sheepskin boots - for the day itself. And no makeup or anything.

Xmas Blush
ZZZenAgain · 13/12/2011 19:51

we spruce ourselves up in my house but then we are at church (2 of them) most days around Christmas, so have to get out of pjs and looking reasonable anyway

Willowisp · 14/12/2011 12:42

Oooo, I have a be dress, Boden, with a stretchy waist, with the hope of looking nice & being comfortable. I also have new smarter slippers Grin.

Dh will be wearing newest shirt & the Dc's whatever we can agree on.
