How much black is too much?

I have bought this dress
www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10001_10001_043010597160_-1?breadcrumb=Home~txtben+de+lisi+petite
which I'm planning on wearing with black opaque tights and black shoes, but was wondering if a black bag would just be too much. Would it look better with a gold or silver bag or even another colour? Any ideas would be great!

Ooh nice. I think a black bag would be fine, but I know what you mean - maybe a bit dull. The sequins do break it up though.

I might go for a brighter bag just to add some colour.

This is quite nice and still has some black in it.

No such thing as too much black, as long as it is decent quality (read expensive) black. If it is a bit of a cheapy handbag, you are better off with something sparkly and fun.

love that topshop bag, freereange eggs!

I wore all black to a fairly informal party last weekend. I felt I was the only one attending a funeral. So mix it up a bit? Black is such a safe, dull, fall-back choice.

Love dress

agree coloured bag reqd

FluffyMummy123 · 12/12/2011 19:05

id do red or similar

EatMeDates · 12/12/2011 19:06

Great dress. I dont think red, sorry. I think a black bag with detail - beading, metallics etc - would work well. All black for a night out is sexy, as long as there are different fabrics/textures and something luxe involved - velvet/fur coat, for example. I would wear a big ring, too. Something a bit outlandish.

chardom · 12/12/2011 19:08

Was thinking of a big ring or a pair of statement earring EatMeDates as can't wear necklace or bracelet with it.

Yes to statement earrings, actually. Its a lovely dress. I dont think you need to be afraid of looking funeral-esque (is that even a word?).

Wish I could get away with wearing a dress like that. .. Love that Topshop bag also.
Think any colour would be nice for bag - something bold ish and bright. Whatever suits you.
Have much fun.
