Any hairdressers that can answer a couple of questions, please?

Went to my hairdresser on Saturday and she made a couple of statements that I'm now wondering about:

  1. You get a build up of products on your hair if you use ordinary shampoo and conditioner, but the professional brands are better because they don't build up.
  2. Conditioner will not do anything for my hair except detangle it. The only thing that sinks into your hair is a mask or treatment (I have over-processed hair and it gets quite dry and split at the ends)

Is this true, or was it a ploy to get me to buy the professional shampoo, conditioner and hair mask that the salon sells?

It is true, The build up consists of silicone and other hair coating products that add moisture and lustre in the short term but wreaks havoc long term. I think it may have been discontinued but neutrogena did a line of shampoos that were silicone and sulphate free, Called pure(?).
Pantene is the worst IME. salon shampoos and conditioners aren't all free from this either. She was telling you the truth, its not just sales patter, honest. Xmas Smile
