I had my heart set on a Didriksons Isabelle Women's Parka but cant track anywhere near me to try one on.....I'm a 12 -14 and concerned that a 12 will be too tight across boobs and a 14 too big as i have heard the are generous.
Has anybody got any ideas what other coats will fit the bill of mega warm, NOT puffa style, waterproof and hooded?
Any help would be great I'm at a loss what to look for and what is good and what isnt.
Thanks for taking the time to read.

oooh well If I won the lottery I would go for one of the jack wolfskin ones either the 3in1 one here or here
or maybe the down/waterproof one here
the hugely expensive swedish brand fjall do some very warm parkas too here and apparently they are now a 'cool' brand

hettie · 10/12/2011 17:07

these guys do nice stuff and there are a few uk places or european shops that ship.....

crazynell · 10/12/2011 17:28

look up craghoppers haddenbury jacket £60 - sorry i haven't mastered doing the weblink- Its a waterproof full length parka with a hood. i got a black but theres navy too. i'm a 12/14 but i got a 16 which is big but i thought i'd be able to wear a fleece or layers under it.

nearlytherenow · 10/12/2011 17:35

I have an Aigle Whispery which might fit the bill? It's very warm. www.offthepath.co.uk/product.php/2124/aigle-whispery-waterproof-jacket

posted on here yesterday - but will repeat - Brand Alley have a Helly Hansen sale on at the moment with a range of coats that look like what you want at 50% off.

I have the craghoppers haddenbury too. It is absolutely waterproof, kneelength, with a fleecy type lining. The hood is amazing. It stayed put, and so did my blow dry on Thursday in that gale. I have the Aigle puffa too, but this is the only one I'll wear in heavy rain and wind.

I've just got the North Face Women's Artic Parka. It's waterproof, hooded and length and very warm. It looks lovely too, definitely not bulky. You can get it in black, brown or white.

I'm a 10 and needed the medium so you might want the large. If you like the look of this it's worth shopping around a bit. It's listed as £275 in store but I got it for less that £220.

moragbellingham · 10/12/2011 21:46

I didn't pre-order in time to get an Isabelle after umming and ahhing for so long.

I got a Craghopper Haddenbury in the end which is good and I got a size 12 as I am a10/12 in clothes. it's roomy but not large (10 would've been too small for sure).

Waterproof and warmish.

vesela · 10/12/2011 21:55

I'm a 12-14 on top (a 12 in anything that stretches, a 14 in anything that does up) and have the Didriksons Rebecca in a 14 - it's just right.

thestringcheesemassacre · 11/12/2011 07:28

SarahSlaughter, where did you get the arctic parka for £220? I'm going to get one, I tried my mates on, they are lush.

mousysantamouse · 11/12/2011 07:45

I have the short version of this in plum, and its nice and cosy.

CoffeeMummy · 11/12/2011 14:43

I can't recommend mine enough - I got it last year from esprit and it's the warmest, cosiest coat I've ever had. In fact it's the best item of clothing I've bought in years and well worth the money.

I'm a size 10-12 and have got the size 10 in this coat, which fits perfectly.

I got it from a company called Allweathers.co.uk. They have it for £215 (+ p&p). Mine should be arriving soon, I'm very excited.

newgirl · 12/12/2011 20:36

Thanks coffeemummy I've just ordered one from espirit!

thestringcheesemassacre · 12/12/2011 21:44

Thanks Sarah, will have a look.

spiderlight · 12/12/2011 22:12

If you can face it, try TK Maxx. I got the most fantastic coat in the world in there last winter for £35. It's down-filled, so it's really warm, but it's not a big bulky puffa-type monstrosity and it's not that awful shiny material. Hood, lovely velvety lining, thigh-length, black - exactly what I was looking for :o I know TK Maxx is hell on earth, especially at this time of year, but it is very occasionally worth it!

nobodysfool · 13/12/2011 16:09

coffeemummy- i cant get your link to work...im intrigued.
