Dh wants to get me a bag for Christmas but which bag, must be leather and brown or black a neutral colour (not very exciting I know). It needs to fit on shoulder, and that's as far as I have gotten. Can anyone suggest good brands, nice bags or even a website to see lots of them. What bag would you get?

Is it worth waiting for the sales how much do the big brands discount by?

Have a look on mywardrobe and net a porter.

It all depends on your budget, reiss and jaeger have some nice bags, and will probably go to half price in the sales.

I've got my eye on a bag that's £400, it's reduced on some American sites by $150. Some of the big brands don't really reduce the classic bags in black, brown etc though.

madammecholet · 08/12/2011 13:56

try these, i've bought from most of them Grin

red direct

Peony & Moore

Oushka

Tabitha Bags

Notonthehighstreet

madammecholet · 08/12/2011 14:32

Just had an email from RED Direct, 13% off everything today - use Merry1311 at checkout.. :)

worldgonecrazy · 08/12/2011 15:09

I'd definitely wait for the sales as you will get much more for your money. I like LK Bennett too.

shinybaubles · 08/12/2011 15:34

Thanks for those recommendations will have a look after I have organised feeding time at the zoo. Do places like Prada and Mulberry discount?

There is a Mulberry outlet store in York and one at head office at Shepton Mallet. I have bought bags, greatly reduced, at both. There is one at Bicester Village too, but Bicester is always bombed flat these days. When I was last in the York shop, one of the staff was one the phone to someone who was asking for a particular bag. The guys at York have posted me a bag, too. The stock is not this season, but sometimes has this season's shapes in 'unusual' colours. Personally, I regard red and green as neutrals. My guess is htat if you ring them early in the morning, they might take pity on you and talk you through their stock. It would help if you had already mastered the names of their most popular styles tho season. If you are searching on line, stick with reputable sites as there are packs of fakes out there. Merry Xmas - lucky you.

shinybaubles · 08/12/2011 16:45

I do like the Peony and Moore bags.
I do also like red too, anything that can go with a black coat - which I suppose are most colours. Something wrong with that sentence Hmm.
I don't want a fake. And a Mulberry bag is a lot of money I suppose they are worth it, could get to Bicester but not the others.hmm

I personally prefer peony and Moore to Mulberry but know not everyone does

minciepie · 08/12/2011 18:24

Just wanted to say thank you to madamme for the Oushka link! Never seen them before, I love all their bags and they are so well priced too. Peony & Moore are nice too but not quite so much my style.

madammecholet · 08/12/2011 18:43

You're welcome minciepie I have a wide and varied bag taste addiction so I look everywhere I can to feed my habit just like polyhymnia

natashakaplinkyplop · 08/12/2011 19:39

Have a look on www.flannelsfashion.com
They have some Prada, mulberry and miu miu bags in the clearance section.

shinybaubles · 09/12/2011 08:44

So I think it's either Peony &Moore , Prada or Mulberry. Finally getting somewhere. Thankyou for all the help.

ShinyBaubles - the P&M Lucia is now sold on line in Tan a colour that will go with everything - Winter / Spring and all year - I have this bag in grey - bought at the beginning of the year - and love it - great all round bag for the money! - can't bring myself to spend Prada and Mulberry prices as I have so many more wants-- er - needs .

A good leather bag will last for years and still look good - so shop around before you decide -- for me value for money is all!!

natashakaplinkyplop · 09/12/2011 10:55

Have a look on www.matchesfashion.com
I've been after a dvf bag and found a 30% off discount code online that expired yesterday but i've just spoke to them and a very nice lady said I could still use the discount and did it over the phone for me.
They have some lovely bags there :o

Mulberry offer a discount of 20% year round and in their factory shops if you buy 500 shares. They're seen as a very safe investment, particularly with their announcement re profits and new stores. If you want to buy a couple of the bags and have the money to invest in the company you can do very well with the discount (have saved a fortune in recent years though best not to think about how much it means I've spent)

shinybaubles · 09/12/2011 11:13

Could probably spend £700 .
I love John Lewis although that's probably not a very fashionable thing to say.

Afishy - that's an interesting idea.

I've just posted a link for matches and they have mulberry bags.
I doubt the 30% off would apply to new stock but there's loads of this season bags.
