Shellac nails - any good?

I noticed a sign for them in my beautician's shop. What is a Shellac manicure and is it better than a normal one?

My colleague has them - they go on like varnish, but are cured with uv light. They don't smudge, and last 2-3 weeks and support your nails.

I've been very pleased with mine. I love the fact they are completely dry instantly so you can put your hand in your bag etc. without worry.

I have found that mine begin to get a few tiny chips towards the top of the nail at around the 2 weeks mark. I think that by 3 weeks the nail regrowth at the bottom would be extremely obvious in all but the palest colours.

Immediately dry and last for 2 -3 weeks. Problem is regrowth more than chipping.
Had it done once and was very pleased.

Fantastic. Ive just had my first - courtesy of a groupon voucher for about £8. It lasted 3 weeks - really good shine, no chips, but a bit of re-growth at the bottom. I'm hooked - although the colours were a bit limited in the salon I went to. Bit tricky to get off without the wraps but a £1.50 bottle of acetone from boots did the job. Was going to buy the kit to DIY it - but it is v. expensive!
