ok so i got black eyeliner... now help me put it on!

I often wear a little bit of dark brown eyeliner but thought I d try black as was going out at weekend and wanted a more dramatic glamorous look ... Totally backfired!
I have the mac pot of stuff and a liner brush...
When i out it on ht was not going on right ... it s a little more liquidy (my other brown stuff is ahem older so not as runny i think and goes on easier.
Also it s so black i dont know how to blend or put shadow around or over it ... I wanted to do smokey eye but looked an adams family extra - not to mention the faffing with trying it a few times my eye s were sore after plus it just got worse each try..
Now i m stuck with a pot of black liner .... where do i go from here - what shadows do you use and how do i avoid looking like i m heading to the rocky horror show??

They always help me! You could try a paint pot / cream eyeshadow for the base in a grey/silvery colour and add the liquid eye-liner over the top, that would be quite easy, not too smoky looking, quite simple and effective?

I have used liquid liner for years and always use the pen type. You put on your eye shadow (for smokey eyes I use a pale base colour, a taupe type shade on the socket and a dark shade on the lid and just into the socket) and put the eyeliner over the top. Then put on your mascara. I have never used a brush and pot, but it sounds like it would be quite difficult esp if you don't usually use it.

i do usually use the pot - but a brown version. going to practice over the next few days see if can get it right for my birthday saturday night the u tube videos are very helpful.

Thanks for all the tips- got some taupe ish couloir and grey with a bit if silver ish shimmer and a black shadow - in a set finding those colours good

IME it's also definitely easier to start with a small angle brush rather than one of these teeny weeny liner brushes. If you're inexperienced it will probably give you a better result.
