My DD2 has her 6th form prom coming up after xmas . Short prom/cocktail dresses are order of the day and we are looking now as it is a nightmare.
She is 5 ft 3 (on a tall day) and a size 8, but with 28J boobs!!!

Needless to say nothing fits and she can never get dresses. We have looked at Bravissimo stuff but the one she did like and didn't look too old for her, is out of stock:(

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions we would be very grateful! Think a very pretty young Dolly Parton with waist length pre raphaelite hair and you have the idea.....

What about something halterneck with a tie at the back of the neck so she can adjust it. I only mention this because I was trying on a similar dress for a ball today and it looked very sad with only my post bf-three-children pancakes to fill it out!

We hadn't thought about halterneck.. but can you get bras to wear under them? She is VERY self conscious about her boobs and has really struggled with her self image as a result.. too much teasing:(

She likes coast too! She is off shopping with her friend this week but I can see it will probably end with her in tears.. her BF hasn't the boobs and can buy fabulous dresses and it's just not fair!!!! stamps foot

(wish she could donate some to me.. I can't fill a B cup.. I'm not sure how she can actually be my child Grin)

would it be worth trying to find a local dressmaker to make something for her? Or even to alter something from a high st shop so it fitted properly?

I do sympathise, although I'm only a 36f I struggle to get dresses to fit over my bust a lot of the time, and often have to buy at least a size bigger.

I did buy this recently, which is stretchy and surprisingly v generous round the bust, so much so I could get into a 12 (normally a 14, or even 16 in dresses). Prob a bit old in style for your DD though.

anything in Pepperberry? they are specifically forthe more ample of nork.

There are some nice prom/cocktail dresses on the House of Fraser site: a nice Warehouse short one with split sleeves and a slash neck, and lots of others, even if she wants to wear proper bra. Can't link cos on phone, but lots of choice, including for young things Smile

Oooh ooh, I have the same problem, I am a size 6, but large(ish) of boob. Finding a dress is a nightmare. I've found that cotton with lycra is generally a good bet, I have a bright red dress that is perfect, from H and M (but years ago). It is sometimes a challenge to find something which is both comfortable and dressy enough in that sort of fabric though.

Grecian style dresses also flattering for example Grecian

Have you looked at Get Cutie, they're based in Brighton but sell on line too, each dress comes in 3 cup sizes to accommodate different cup sizes and they use fabulous prints and great styles, HTH Smile

My DD is very slim with big boobs also (30E) , she was size 6 but a coast size 8 fitted her boobs and also wasn't ridiculously big on her waist

here

HazleNutt · 05/12/2011 07:09

ah sorry I see you have looked there already.
What's your budget? I'm busty (while not quite J) and can usually fit into LK Bennett, but they might be pricey..
As for halternecks, she just needs a good multiway bra. I have one from Fantasie, works really well.

MedusaIsHavingABadHairDay · 05/12/2011 16:23

I am probably looking at about £150 tho I would go higher for something really nice (we paid £300 for her prom at 16..ball gown and I'm still reeling from that..then she changed schools for 6th form...sigh..) as I want her to feel good about herself. She is utterly gorgeous.. lovely face, the most amazing hair yet she has really poor self image because of those damn boobs.

Thankyou for all and any suggestions... I am looking at anything anyone says:) (and will show DD when she comes in later!)

I have a very similar figure to your DD! For a halterneck bra what I do is simply get a good bra with a still tight band around the ribs, then cut the straps and sew them together into a halterneck. It's painful on the neck but if it's only for one night it's fine. Halternecks do tend to make your boobs look bigger though so possibly not ideal if she's self conscious.

Maybe call up the Pepperberry (new clothes offshoot of Bravissimo) customer service line? I am sure they will be very helpful and may have some stock coming it which could suit your DD.

Tell her to love her boobs and walk tall and proud!
