cocktails and canapes - please help!

I need a dress. The gentry that DH works for have invited him (and me) to a cocktails and canapes party at their home in just under 2 weeks. I have absolutely nothing suitable to wear. Worse, I have no idea what would be suitable. I'm early 30s, 5'9'', size 12ish, hate my arms, have good legs and reasonable boobs... I think I suit things without a high neck and that come in under the bust. I haven't been clothes shopping in years (since the kids really) and live in the middle of nowhere. I usually wear vintage but not sure I can risk buying something off ebay. Can anyone help me find something suitable and beautiful. Budget couldn't really stretch past £50...
Thanks!

Why couldn't you wear vintage?

Thanks for the suggestions tethers. I really need to have something with sleeves though. I could do vintage - would prefer to really - but I'm worried about buying off ebay with only 2 weeks because they sizing and cut on vintage is so unpredictable...

I know... but you could get something so beautiful for your budget.

Where in the country are you? Near any good vintage shops?

I have in my mind an early 60s 3/4 sleeved shift, but can't find one online. Will keep looking.

oooh yes! I have so many beautiful 60s dresses that are slightly -far- too small for me since the kids. Maybe I should just stop eating? I'm in the Lakes and I don't drive so actual shops are tricky, but I am due to go to MAnchester next weekend so maybe will have a search there...
Thanks for your help!

I have a wardrobe full of the same... enjoy shopping Smile

Failing that, I spotted this in DP which would look great with a vintage brooch and gloves...

Farrow
That DP dress, Tethers suggested is beautiful, and I am sure you could dress it up like Tethers suggests and look even better. I would def buy that if I was actually going anywhere this Xmas. Xmas Sad

Thank you so much Tethers, top tips. Have just bought a gorgeous 60's silk dress for Christmas, for less than 20 quid!
Very cheered as I was looking at a frugal festive season this year, so chuffed to have a new dress.
