False Nails.. am I being stupid?

I really, really want to have false nails done, either acrylics or gels.

Problem is, about 6 weeks ago I trapped my little finger in the car door. My nail went black and a couple of weeks later, completely fell off. From what I can see, no new nail is growing back.

Will they attach false nails to the skin? They probably won't but worth checking!

That sounds painful,i dont think they can stick it to your skin tbh but i may be wrong.

Sounds daft but if you have small fingers why dont you try a pack of the stick on false nails you can buy in Boots for little girls, just on that finger?

Don't do it! Step away from the acrylic. That is all.

acrylics and gels will fuck up your nails. quite beside the fact they look shit after a week so you need to get them maintained for £20 a pop every fortnight at least.

acrylics were the biggest mistake i every made with my nails, ruined them and took forever to get back into decent condition.

if you have to go for gel polish but this still is pretty damaging.

Yowch, as a firm lover of the fake nails (sorry everyone that says they wreck your nails - they do but I love them anyway!) this would bloody knack!

My friend works for nails inc and is pretty gung ho about what she will attempt to do on my stumps, but even she would draw the line at glue / acrylic on nail bed.

Alargeglassofred · 03/12/2011 19:58

It's lucky for you that when you caught your finger in the door it was your real nail!! If you had an acrylic nail it would probably have ripped off your nail bed, at the very least would have been v painful soaking your false nail off a damaged nail bed...think dipping raw finger in acetone!! Don't have false nails!!!

acrylics are the devil. i had them done once in 2001, it took until 2003 for my nails to get back to normal, let alone for the nails start to grow back as normal strong nails.

Catsmamma · 03/12/2011 20:16

just to go against the grain I had acrylics for years and gave them up in march, had a couple of weeks of tatty nails but now they have never been longer

but to get back to the op, just eeeeek to glue-ing anything to your naked finger! Shock
