Fake Tan advice please......

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 02/12/2011 06:10

I have never worn fake tan and would like a little glow as I've got a few things to go to this Christmas, and I'm 30 this month too so want to look fabulous!!

Any recommendations on brands and hints and tips please?

I don't want to try a spray tan as they always seem to look really dark.

And I have quite dry skin so no idea what's best.

I don't want to look like teak or mahogany, just a little glowier than my milk shade now Wink

Thanks.

Moisturise moisturise moisturise in the days running up to application.

Exfoliate.

I use Famous Dave's fake Tan mousse..available in light..it wears off really well and you don't like you have skin disease.

Use a fake tan mitt for even coverage- leave your hands and face till last.

To do your hands..dab a teeeeensy bit on the back of your hands then rub the back of your hands together.
Apply some moisturiser to your hands and hand in then wipe the palms of your hands on an old towel.

Remove any streaky bits with whitening toothpaste on a cotton pad the next day when you're "cooked"

Easy Peasy!Let me know how you get on?!Good Luck!

A gradual daily moisturiser one? St Tropez do a good one. Make sure you get the one for fair skin and you can't go wrong.

I like Lancome Flash Bronze - I'm very fair and the colour is natural and light. It's a spray and it dries really quickly.

I've also read good reviews of the Ambre Solaire gradual tan spray - sort of a body lotion spray but with a hint of tan. You would probably need to use it daily for 4-6 days to get a nice colour.

Agree that you need a fake tan mitt - e.g. Velvotan. I normally do the backs of my hands by just wiping the mitt over the back of each hand without applying any extra product.

The Lancome one is really good, they do one for face and another for body. Not only does it give a nice natural looking tan, it makes my skin really soft and smell good. It's quite expensive, but a little goes a long way. You can get them to test a patch on your arm at a Lancome counter to see if you like the shade (think it takes about 12 hours to develop fully).

I have tried quite a few but always go back to St. Tropez. I much prefer the lotion but the spray makes it easy to do my back myself. The exfoliant and moisturiser they do are fab too. It gives a very natural looking colour/glow and if you want it darker you can do two applications. I've never had any streaks with it.

emsyj · 02/12/2011 10:27

I have never had streaks with St Tropez, but I find the colour very dark. I've not tried the spray version though. Is that one lighter? I look like a WAG in St Tropez Sad.

midori1999 · 02/12/2011 11:47

Maybe a bit lighter. I never go dark with the lotion though, but if you want it lighter you can use the moisturiser first or mix some moisturiser with the tan lotion, that gives a lighter colour.

I use St Tropez, the mousse one. I find it really easy to apply, and when it washes off there are no streaks or orangy bits.
I always wear those gloves and then just do the backs of my hands at the very end.

SantasENormaSnob · 02/12/2011 15:22

Exfoliate,

moisturise,

rubber gloves and a sock.

I use st moriz but maybe a little dark for you.

The best product I have found is the Dove body moisteriser with a hint of self tan - it allows for errors as you can build up the tan to the depth you want - I put it on 3 times a week throughout the whole year as it helps take the white out of my face!

I always wear on my face/neck/chest and arms - I put it on in the morning and after 10 mins slap my make up on top

I have done it just before I go to sleep too

Either way works

Make sure you wash your hands after you have applied well to face/chest/arms/legs etc and then with a cotton wool ball I apply to the back of my hands ...

Thanks for all the tips and advice ladies.

Think I'm going to try it this weekend to see how I get on before I use it to go out, iykwim.

I'll let you know how I get on. Will be getting a mitt, scrubbing and moisturising. Hope I don't end up like an Oompa Lumpa Xmas Grin

I always use St Tropez. It's great! Although remember if you use it all over, don't use a white towel after your shower.
