I have just bought this dress but mine is a kind of old gold/mustard colour. I have looked everywhere online for exact link but I cannot find it - its from VW's pre-SS12 collection.

Anyway, am wearing it for cocktails and dinner at swanky London hotel. Intending on wearing my hair up in a very messy bun and have gorgeous vintage gold beaded bag to go with. However, am stuck about legs and feet. Do I wear opaques and patent shoes? Or do I have to go (gulp) bare legged with black suede peep toes? Or are fishnets a total faux pas?

That is a gorgeous dress - jealous! I'd probably go with your bare legs option but unfortunately I'm not a fashionista (I wish) so im sure someone else will let you know!

HettyAmaretti · 26/11/2011 19:51

Wow, that's stunning!

Fishnets would be fab with it.

margherita76 · 26/11/2011 19:53

fishnets and black shoes

margherita76 · 26/11/2011 19:53

lovely dress!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/11/2011 19:55

Gorgeous dress. I don't like the idea of fishnets with mustard - if the dress was black I'd have said yes. I'd go with opaques and the patent shoes and a huge dirty gold bangle.

Thanks for replies. Yes I have been lusting after a Friday Dress for a year or more now and finally persuaded DH that it would make a good Christmas/birthday/anniversary investment Wink.

Bare legs will require a few applications of St Tropez Gradual tanner between now and next weekend so thought I would ask early. I do feel a little self-conscious going out in December sans hosiery though so perhaps fishnets are the way to go.

Any more opinions? :)

Remus yes I had thought that chunky arm wear would be the way to go. It's very girly and whilst I am known for wearing girly vintage I wanted to make it a little more edgy, hence the slightly scruffy hair too.

V jealous of the dress - it's gorgeous!
I'd go bare-legged with something like these platform peeptoes on my feet.

Agree re messy bun!

ujjayi · 26/11/2011 20:10

dairymoo - they are almost identical to my shoes only mine are plain suede rather than printed :)

Nude Fishnets?

emsyj · 27/11/2011 09:11

I was just going to say nude fishnets - they are a fashion miracle for those 'opaque tights don't look right, nude tights are a bit old lady, but I don't want to go bare-legged' moments.

chinateacup · 27/11/2011 09:45

I third nude fishnets

SeeLyon · 27/11/2011 11:02

they are gopping.
dont do nude fishnets

emsyj · 27/11/2011 11:43

If you think nude fishnets are gopping, you need to buy more expensive ones. The cheap crappy ones that are too pale really are horrid - but Wolford Twenties are fab.

SeeLyon · 27/11/2011 11:52

nude anything gops

bethelbeth · 27/11/2011 13:57

I do nude fishnets all the time for a vintage 50's americana look.
FWIW they are the most flattering tights in the world. They don't have the 'sausage casing' look of a nude tight.

tethersend · 27/11/2011 14:03

Black opaques and suede shoes.

MarshaBrady · 27/11/2011 14:11

What a stunning dress.

Keep it very simple, like the Matches link.

Black shoes.

ujjayi · 27/11/2011 17:21

Thanks for replies :)

I really don't know about nude fishnets. Do they not look a bit, erm, tap dancer-ish? I was a dancer in my former life and we used to wear nude fishnets although the more expensive version made by Danskin (I think) were beautiful quality and gave more of a "tanned" appearance than fishnet per se. Anyway, its worth a look so I will check out the Wolford Twenties.

I think the best thing to do is try on with several options and if I still can't decide then I will post some photos for your further assistance Wink

Thanks again!

Your legwear should match your shoes, I think even the model in the link looks a bit odd with bare legs and black shoes, just my opinion though, it looks like a lovely dress.
