White Shirt - Elkie Brooks Horror

I realise the headline appeals to those of a certain age.......
Next week I am part of a little 'performance' dance thing. Everyone is a woman of a certain age. Whilst I wasn't looking, someone declared the 'uniform' for the set which is a white shirt (amongst other things which I am too embarrassed to detail here and it is possible that I may be outed).
White shirts do not look good on me. I am an hour glass, with broad shoulders, large norks and a small waist. I do not own one. I have already had a row because I said I would rather wear a white vest or T. I don't want to be a pain in the arse (even though I already have been) but I just can't think of a way to wear (any) white shirt without looking like the oldest bit of mutton in the shop. I watch Anita Dobson training on Strictly wearing a shirt knotted at the waist - if that's what she wants to do - good on 'er. But the thought of it make me feel sartorially sick.

What I need here is a good talking to. Either tell me to get over it and get on with it. Or make some suggestions. The salvation already in my wardrobe is a beautiful pair of black high waisted tux pants - they aren't black leggings, if you get my drift - but I could get away with wearing them.

These might be more flattering?

Alternatively, a men's one tucked in but open with a vest top/tshirt underneath might look better and be easier to move in?

Oh Forward. Don't panic, you sound like a right hottie with that lovely hour glass figure. You need something with a bit of stretch in it, or a wrap shirt. I will find you some, hold on

Do you also wear a lot of pearly brow highlighter and have uber flicky long brown hair?

'Pearl's a singer...'

tak1ngchances The Charles Trywitt one looks quite interesting. Thank you. I am only a size 8/10 the norks are 30F/Gs tho!!!!! This is why I do wide necklines on stretchy tops. purplepidjin AHA! they reminded me of a Viv white shirt in my archive which I have never worn as I got it off ebay and have never been able to work out how to tie up the miles of ties. SeeLyon I can't possibly say - but I'll never do it again. Moondog you got it.

Buy one that fits your shoulders and waist and just leave it a bit unbuttoned with vest underneath or just a red bra [unsure as to what look you're all going with]

Lots of nice ones around from gap to white company.

ForwardOcho · 26/11/2011 18:44

Oh well, I'd better admit it. to be worn with a tie. Red.

Pepperberry. Tbh, I've never liked their shirts that much (I bought one years ago when it was Bravissimo and it was a bugger to iron so totally useless as far as my lazy arse is concerned) but it should at least fit your chest and waist.
