Teenaged girls wearing thin black leggings...

...with clearly visible pants underneath.

Are they doing it deliberately? Is it the current fashion?

Please advise.

I was beginning to think that I was the only one who had noticed this. Have mentioned it to other people, and no-one seemed to know what I was on about.

The young woman in the post office queue in front of me earlier in the week had pink pants with cupcakes all over them on under her leggings. I could have coped without knowing that, really!

flybynight · 25/11/2011 14:51

This dosn't answer your question, MamaL, but lasy year in Vancouver I saw a man jogging wearing very see through leggings AND NO PANTS. I had a proper funny turn.

MamaLazarou · 25/11/2011 15:04

Thanks for that! Confused

If you find out about the leggings thing, let me know. I'm dying to find out. They are generally great big patterned pants, so something tells me it is deliberate.

Saw an example of this today in town and I wondered. Do they actually know their pants are visible? Or is it some new fangled trend that I have misses out on?

Could be worse saw mini skirt, hold ups/suspenders and tights one day in town with everything visible!

redlac · 25/11/2011 21:10

Leggings nowadays are woefully thin - why can't you get nice thick ones with Lycra in them any more?

bethelbeth · 25/11/2011 22:27

You can get thick ones in River Island but they are VERY thick indeed.

Toasty warm though

redlac · 25/11/2011 22:28

Oh thanks bethelbeth!

Gingefringe · 25/11/2011 22:33

Maybe it's the female equivalent of those awful baggy jeans showing boxer shorts/bum thing.

bethelbeth · 25/11/2011 22:37

My OH does that Gingefringe. But on the other hand looks weird with jeans pulled up. I can't win.

SecretNutellaFix · 25/11/2011 22:39

I saw a young "lady" bend over in front of me and could see her dark polka-dotted pink knickers. Yep- that's right. The dark brown legings she wore were so see- through on bending you could see the colour of her knickers.

stressheaderic · 25/11/2011 22:40

I love very thick leggings. Next are good but too short in the standard length.
Thin leggings are no friend of mine - knickers showing or not.

MrsKwazii · 25/11/2011 22:40

Better big pants than the lacy thong and arse-cheeks I got an eyeful of through leggings in a check out queue recently

Himalaya · 25/11/2011 22:43

The other thing ive seen is boys with really lairy y-fronts pulled up above their belly button, with t-shirt tucked into pants and low rise skinny jeans. . These fashions just seemed designed to bemuse adults.

SemperUbiSubUbi · 25/11/2011 22:44

BIL's ex once wore thin black leggings with no underwear.

I found out she had no knickers on when she unceremoniously hoiked her leggings up, full arse stuck out and hips wiggling and i saw pubes sticking out the front!

Shock [bleugh]

nancerama · 25/11/2011 22:45

Leggings should only ever be worn as a footless tight.

The majority of people wearing them with their thighs in display look shocking, and the few with toned thighs who can get away with it shouldn't because they make the rest of us look bad. For this reason, leggings don't need to be thick.

Realisticalusualsuspect · 25/11/2011 22:46

Who gives a toss

I'm sure you all look like you have just stepped off the catwalk

I reckon it's because they only check out their front view in the mirror when they get dressed. They probably have no idea their choice of underwear is visible to all.

Binfullofmaggotsonthe45 · 26/11/2011 06:33

Semper i'll be pm'ing you regarding the cost of a new ipad, after just spraying my tea all over mine whilst reading your post.Grin

I will check with my 15 yo niece. I think it might be just a change of style - girls are now wearing leggings like trousers - and not checking underwear choice underneath. I only have plain underwear and a selection of pants for different outfits. Teeepns just tend to have the ones in their Christmas stockings don't they? Hence the garish patterns.

I have a team member who is 21 and everyday wears black leggings with a crop knitted jumper and hi top sneakers.

So 5 working days of regular stand ups to do the "legging hoist wiggle" followed by a choice view of camels toe before she heads to the kitchen.

I only wear leggings with an over the knee boot and a tunic dress or tee so there is 8 inches of thigh shown max. I save my team the dignity of having to read my lips every time I stand up.

AlpinePony · 26/11/2011 06:55

I think it's as redlac suggests, teenage budgets stretch to the range 'wafer thin @ H&M' only.

Fuctifano · 26/11/2011 06:56

The girls in the school I teach in are a big fans of Primark and H and M both of who's leggings are so thin they ladder like tights often near to the (straining) seams.

I think they are genuinely unaware, in the same way that they seem unaware of their awful fake tan, foundation, ten clumped layers of mascara on false eyelashes .....

They do regard leggings as trousers, which I just don't get.

The protruding pubes and hoist wiggle are clear markers that leggings are a form of footless tight.

Stress, if you ever find leggings of next quality that are a decent length - get them up here!

Binfullofmaggotsonthe45 · 26/11/2011 07:10

Alpine so their budget stretches almost as badly as their leggings then Grin

I saw a Grazia page re Kate Middletons sister wearing leggings as trousers shock, horror, stop the press the other day actually.

Am laughing at the fake tan and make up on schoolgirls, bless, my niece looks like a startled dolly with her mascara on! But at that age you can't tell her she is breathtakng without it!

Sparklingbrook · 26/11/2011 07:15

If in doubt, put a pair of the teeniest denim shorts over the top of them. because that doesn't look odd in November at all. But at least no knickers showing. Confused

Pippinintherain · 26/11/2011 08:17

Teenagers I can kind of forgive, but grown women making the same mistake is worrying.
Got a right eyeful of the rather large lady front's bottom on the school run, white pants and all.

Leggings should only be worn with a tunic or long top that covers the old arse.

Sparklingbrook · 26/11/2011 08:20

The Mum at school had the see-through leggings on with a thong, and she kept bending into the basket of her pram. Blush
