Am starting a new job and need a capacious black handbag. Is the Milly worth the price tag? ( Kicking myself I didn't get it when Red had money off it!)

I have the Lucia, so in terms of quality and style I think they are very much worth the money. The leather is soft and i've been wearing mine since the beginning of the year and it looks gorgeous still. Get lots of comments etc...

TuttoRhino · 25/11/2011 15:42

I'm using mine every day. I feel sad for my Lucia which is hanging unloved on the coat rack at the moment.

novelsituation · 25/11/2011 18:51

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like it just has to be bought :)

I own the Milly in black and it's been the best bag I've ever had. Lovely leather and a great 2nd strap, I use it as a work bag.. You'll love it novelsituation...

pictish · 25/11/2011 21:50

What is the second strap for? Does it go across the body?

Clarabumps · 25/11/2011 22:16

I love this bag- but have just bought another bag and cant afford another this year so it will have to wait anothertwomonths till later on next year till I can buy it. DO it!

polyhymnia · 26/11/2011 00:08

I have just ordered Milly it and returned it. It was a lovely bag (in tan), very nice quality and, if I'd just been looking for a capacious and smart work bag - which is probably what you want - I would have kept.

But I really wanted something deeper, and with two compartments, one dedicated to my laptop/ tablet, which I don't want mixed up with my other stuff.

So from that point of view the design of somehting like the larger Pippa would be better, though must admit, having looked at that in RL in John Lewis, still can't totally get over my aversion to the bright 'goldness' of the metalwork. Don't like most Mulberrries for same reason!

There is a cross-body strap but I wasn't very impressed with that - pretty weedy for the size of the bag - and this also played a part in my decision to return, as the other strap didn't go comfortably over my (large) shoulder in winter clothes, and I'm often on the tube, laden down with stuff.

My friend has got the milly bag, and tbh I don't think it was worth the money. When I first saw it , I didn't think wow thats nice, it's nice but I wouldn't pay that much for it. I have seen better bags for less and much nicer. But that's just my opinion, so if you like it, go for it.

dottierules · 26/11/2011 11:22

I have the Milly in black - no - it's not a wow! bag - but it is the most beautiful quality - soft leather ,smelling divine too - -( not thick and hard like cheap leathers ) made to last - hold lots- be versatile with both straps and I know it will take the pounding I will give it and still look great in years to come -- so it depends what you think is value for money - - cheap wow! bags that last a year - or classic quality bags that look better with wearing and age - - - - that's just my opinion and everyone is different - -

polyhymnia · 26/11/2011 11:43

My reservations on it weren't about value for money - just that it wasn't exactly what I wanted for the purpose and at that price I wanted something exactly right.

Kagriff · 01/12/2011 12:05

Hi, I've got the Milly bag which I use to cart all my work stuff round. Really pleased with it. What's nice is that it isn't too heavy before you put anything in compared to other bags I've bought for the same purpose including Mulberry bags. I'm dreadful for overloading my bag and then end up with serious backache. Hope that's of some help. :)

OllieinOrange · 01/12/2011 12:21

If anyone is thinking of buying a P&M bag, just had an email saying there's a flash sale this WE with discounts on their bags.

cookingfat · 01/12/2011 12:59

I'm very tempted by the Lucia - can't decide black or tan. Lusting after a proper bag, but one that won't date as I'll be using the changing bag as primary handbag for a couple more years yet!

novelsituation · 01/12/2011 17:36

Thank you Ollie. Hadn't put order in yet so delighted to hear of discount!

cookingfat its a great bag...I see they've bought the tan back, it sold out really quickly in the summer....

polyhymnia · 01/12/2011 23:11

I have the chocolate Lucia - it's excellent.

potkettlenoir · 02/12/2011 16:53

Oh god....I want a bag now because of this thread..

which is better bag?

polyhymnia · 02/12/2011 16:58

I prefer the Lucia because it sits comfortably on my shoulder and because of its great outside pockets which are easy to access.

natrob · 02/12/2011 17:09

Thanks for the heads up on the discount, I adore my Millie bag and can now justify a Christmas presie of a new Peony and Moore bag as I love the quality and feel of my Millie. Not sure which one to go for!!

srobbo71 · 19/01/2012 09:37

I have the Milly Luxe Pink Crossbody bag which is beautiful but having never used it I have decided to sell it. Not sure I would have paid the £268 price that is on the tag ( I got it as a gift) but the quality is lovely and I would buy another if a good deal came up but would go for black and a little bigger as I carry lots of nick nacks around even when I go out lol.

sobenobu · 19/01/2012 10:20

Does that mean that the Milly will be less than £196 from Red website or is that the bottom sale price do you all think?
