Size 16, 5'4". Can't show arms.

Does 'black tie' mean floor length, or would knee length be ok? Definitely nothing shorter than just below knee.

Am happy with floor-length by the way.

What's your budget?

Jaeger £££

Ghost

Mango

Peacocks

Sequin

MissHonkover · 25/11/2011 10:31

Hooray! I hoped you'd bite tether. Grin

I'd like to spend as little as possible (under £100, definitely) as I'm about to be unemployed, but this is a good opportunity to meet future employers, so I need to be on my game.

If the ones you've linked to I like the Jaeger one (of course!) but yes, £££.

Of the others, I only like the Peacocks one, but my arms are a disaster zone.

I like this but too pricey.

What about this? Too Gypsy funeral?

the monsoon dress is a bit 80s cher.

peacocks REALLY nice, but material will be cheap and cling where you would hope it didn't.

MissHonkover · 25/11/2011 10:58

Yes, I wondered about that. It's so difficult!

I love things like the Daisy Lowe maxi dress, vintagey and lovely, but out of stock. It's a creativey type event, so I don't have to be too middle of the road, but 'statement' dressing when you're short and a bit fat can go so wrong so easily...

What do you think of this

Not my usual style, not really a fan of applique, but looks like it could be drapey and flattering...

Thats lovely but I think it might drown you tbh. What about something like this here with some really amazing statement shoes and clutch? Maybe gold or animal print?

I dont think black tie requires full length dresses AT ALL.

MissHonkover · 25/11/2011 11:35

That's gorgeous Gilly, but far too short. I have really chunky legs and skirt length has to be just below the knee or maxi.

Monsoon one = not dressy enough
Phase eight one = vile

How about this?- touch over budget, but a lovely dress. Comes in lots of other colours too.

tethersend · 25/11/2011 11:51

Another over budget

Sorry.

tethersend · 25/11/2011 11:54

Love this

MissHonkover · 25/11/2011 13:26

I love it too! And it's cheap! I'm ordering it now.

HM dress is lovely, great find. Its 113 cm long though which is going to be a odd length if you are 5' 4", no?

MissHonkover · 25/11/2011 14:18

Too long or too short? It looked slightly above the knee on the model, so I thought it might be about right for me.

OP posts:
tethersend · 25/11/2011 14:31

It will be a great length- just below knee.

Gillybobs · 25/11/2011 14:32

Well she looks about 6 foot so imagine 8 inches longer than knee length (ish) Have you got a dress you could measure at home which will give you an idea how long this one would be on you?
